G'day

I have just purchase a caravan and currently I am using the clip on extended mirrors. These are ok but I am keen on getting a set of clearview new generation mirrors.

I have 200 series with a lovell's 4200kg GVM upgrade. This upgrade also required upgrading the front guard indicators to a CAT 6 type.

What I want to know is do I need to order my new clearview mirrors with CAT 6 indicators? I understand that because I have a GVM upgrade greater than 3500kg (and under 4500kg) that I need to have CAT 6 indicators which has been installed as part of the compliance, but would I also need them on the mirrors? I have read online that I do but then I have read that because I have the CAT 6 on the guards already. It's around an extra $90 for the CAT 6 indicators....

Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

If your vehicle already has CAT 6 compliant indicators, then you do not legally need to have them on your Clearview replacement mirrors as well.

I would be curious to know the theory on why a heavier vehicle needs a brighter light

There a bit more on an older thread 149983

Hi Nick,

Cat 6 indicators are designed so that they are visible from alongside and slightly behind the front door of the vehicle. It is not just the brightness.

Thanks macca , my point was why should the weight / GVM be the determining Factor , why don't all vehicles have the same requirements . It's so much easier when the lights are very easy to see .

Yes Nick, good point. I am not sure if the ADR’s actually explain why vehicles classed as Light Trucks and heavier/larger require these indicators.
