Cooper Creek Ferry Needed Soon?

New plots on this map. Cooper at Lake Pandruannie on arguably 14/6 but 13/6 was clouded out. It was not there on 12/6. So it has flowed the last leg more quickly than in 2010 when it was 17/4 at Lake Hope diversion and 17/5 at Padruannie. i.e. 30 days. This year dates are 22/5 to 14/6 so 23 days. Water should cross Birdsville Track about 28/6 given recent faster flow rates. It will fill Killamperpunna first so happy days for LEYC. After that another month plus to Lake Eyre so say first week of August. All a bit irrelevant as Lake is "full" enough already for air tourist purposes and it is off limits to just about everybody on water. By land the tracks to Halligan and Level Post Bays are actually open. No other land access.
Back in 2010 the ferry ran from 8th June to Jan 21st 2011. SA govt has about two weeks to sort ferry out subject to reopening of BV track up at Qld border

Peter

It’s been sitting in Marree for over 3 years and that is where it will stay and not see any more water use

Interesting how much quicker the flow is this year compared to 2010. If it hits Birdsville Track by the 28th, that’s quite a pace. Great news for LEYC too and good to know Halligan and Level Post are accessible by land

The floodwaters hit and closed the Birdsville Track by Thursday 26 June 2025 with no ferry or barge onsite with no decision when and if one will be in place, but the old ferry will never ever see the floodwaters ever again

Removed to Marree in 2022 for repairs that never happened

In the meantime graziers have been calling out for decades to get a bigger barge, capable of taking roadtrains, fuel supplies etc.

Even my contacts within DIT calling for a barge. The one they are looking at will be like a giant Meccano set, in container form, shipped over from Western Australia.

Will take 3 days to get here then assembled on site, this has been my weekly question for over 3 months with officials. Then there are talks that if it does get approved, it will be a money grab and first ever TOLL Road/Crossing in South Australia. Fees tossed around $50 for car and up to $1500 for roadtrain….yet the same trips on the River Murray ferries…free…..

The Cooper finally crossed the Birdsville Track early Thursday morning and not a ferry or barge at the crossing and there will be nothing for months, but all down to our Premier to sign off and approve but big stalemate.

The Birdsville Track is still underwater south of Birdsville and be so for at least 8 more weeks.

Wishing the coming months, there is over $270 million dollars of premium organic cattle that needs to get to market, but nothing in place. Mungerannie Pub had to close a couple of weeks ago, 9 staff lost jobs.

There is so much more to tell but but not enough time….lol

Unfortunately the forum has lost its mojo like it did have years ago, so mush BS etc.

They say you can bot self promote but on my floods page I get tens of thousands of hits every day and for example in 17 hours since I did a history of the Cooper barges and ferry, I have had nearly 25, 000 views and 160 shares., something will never ever happen or has here on the forum.

Now waiting the the mods to get the shits and remove this
