Border Track

Anyone travelled the Border Track recently?
We're looking for a more interesting option than the bitumen, on our way from Geelong to Mildura late this month, and thought we might give it a try. We've previously spent some time in the National Parks along the way (Wyperfield, Murray-Sunset, Big Desert), so familiar with the general area.
Border Track looks like it may be a bit similar in terrain to Googs in South Aus, which we enjoyed at a similar time of year.
I believe we'll have to detour around one section though, as it is North>South only.
Any relevant/recent observations appreciated.
Thanks

G'day Wildmax,
Have not done the border track for a while but watch the weather as rain makes the claypans VERY slippery. Still pretty dry out here & last week accessed our bush block out that way & the claypans were ok. Due to the long dry spell the sand on our access track was pretty chopped up.
Not sure when you leave home but a bit of rain is forecast in the next few days.
You are correct about one section being North to South.
We love the Vic "Outback" so enjoy.
Cheers
Stu

Yes Ivan, I was thinking I might do the Nhill-Murrayville road to avoid the Ngarkat section which is one way in the wrong (for me) direction, and then [pck up the northern section of the Border Track east of Pinaroo.

Wildmax : The other way you could travel would be drive north on the lower section of the Border Track to Red Bluff and pick up one of the bypass tracks of the one way sections .

Just returned from there on the weekend. Spent the week in the area. Plenty of recent rains has left some boggy sections and puddles of standing water. Bottom of the holes are generally pretty solid so don't detour far off the tracks.

You might be better doing the Nhill-Murrayville Road and choosing a nice detour down the Milmed or Chinamans Well Tracks to come out at Albacutya. Pretty quiet out there at present which is nice.

Cheers, Mick

Might be a bit late on that one. Just noticed the post date was July and not August...DOH! :-)
