Jeepy,Most of the maps and systems we use are all based on WGS84. Our systems are all set to WGS84.Regards

Jeepy – basically if you're just cross referencing to a paper map - just match your GPS datum to the one used on that. Aussie maps vary in age and there is no one answer to your question. Some are Aus66 (AMG), some Aus84 (AMG), some WGS84 and some GDA94 (MGA). Aus66 and 84 are close enough to being the same, as are WGS84 and GDA (for GPS users anyway). As far as the GPS/Oziexplorer is concerned here is a summary of what I think is correct –
Settings required for a GARMIN GPS of any type…;
Using a paper map-
GPS datum – set to match the map;
Oziexplorer Configuration settings for GPS – N/A
Downloading/Uploading Waypoints/Tracks etc;
GPS datum – Whatever suits you – doesn’t matter.
Oziexplorer Configuration settings for GPS (Upload/ Download Datum) - WGS84 (ALWAYS no choice);
Using Moving Map
GPS Datum – Whatever suits you – don’t matter.
Oziexplorer Configuration settings for GPS (NMEA Output Datum) - same as GPS Datum.
Cheers Greg
