Hey everyone
I appreciated all the
feedback on my post about dual cabs, a hilux sounds like it would be suitable for me, but if i found it too sluggish in the future how much does it cost to fit an aftermarket turbo?? Also does the turbo improve fuel economy?
If i was going to go that way though, are there any reasons why I shouldnt alternatively go the rodeo 2.8 td ???
For offroad reasons would the solid front axle hilux be better than the rodeo??
I just want to know why theres a few ppl on this site who have spent fairly good money on aftermarket turbos for the hilux if they knew about rodeos?
thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
I picked up a 2nd hand turbo for my 2.4 Lux from a wrecker for 500, installed it myself and then had a 2.5 inch exhaust whaked on for 150 I thnink from memory. I have 31 x 10.5 tyres also. Ute is much better to drive, less gear changing in hills and more torque in sand etc. Vehicle had 200K kms on clock when fitted. No drams at all.
Others will report differntly possibly but my fuel consumption has not changed..10 kays per litre regardless of city or highway.
In short best thing I ever did for the vehicle (and me).

G'day Ryan
I own a 89 model 2.8 4runner and when she had 405.000kms on her I put a DTS turbo on and then wondered why I waited so long to do the mod. There is now 518,417klms on the clock.
Fuel economy went from 10.5 klms/ltr to 10.25 klms/ltr. This economy is solely up to the weight of your right foot.
The 4runner has I.F.S. and coils at rear. I've wound the front up to max height and 50mm coils at rear along with a 50mm body lift and had no problems towing my CT up the OLT and have just now returned from 5 weeks touring around the gulf.
I also have a lokka in the rear diff.
I run 235/85/16 tyres which are 32 inches diameter.
Buy it, do it, you'll be very satisfied.
Safe travels.
Jim-Bob.

Ryan, heres a little info about our systems:
Prices for our range of Hilux systems are below. Each model uses a different turbo because one of our key design philosophies is to match the turbo to the engine as perfectly as possible. You can expect around 30% extra power.
2L Hilux $2680
3L Hilux $2865
5L Hilux $2865
These prices are the complete system and include new exhaust system, prices are available for those who already have a larger exhaust.(NB excludes fitting)
·Denco Turbo Systems are easy to fit, and spare parts are readily available if required.
·30 day money back guarantee
·two year turbo warranty
·Denco have been fuel injection specialists since 1970 and developed their first aftermarket turbo systems around 1974. For around thirty years we have been developing our turbo systems hand in hand with our fuel injection knowledge. This has created one of the most reliable systems in the Australian diesel aftermarket.
Fuel economy after the fitment of an aftermarket system is entirely variable. While a turbocharger makes the engine more efficient, it is what the driver does with this extra power that will influence fuel economy.
Feel free to emial us direct for specific info re your model, ask for a dyno graph of some before and afters we've done if you like.
