If you have to ask the question then you can't afford to drink. Methinks you will only find beer in cans. When a pub is trying to serve 5000 customers at once there is no time to pour a schooner. Cheers, Willie

This is a question worthy of much discussion, it is relevant, to the point and should not be dismissed lightly.
In fact I believe it could be the forerunner of a new feature on this site.
How much is a beer anywhere?
I don't think its a matter of whether you can afford to drink but rather....
How much?

Cheapest way to buy is by the carton Yr 2000 was $40 from memory buying singular cans is really hard to get to the bar so get a few mates and WHEN you get to bar buy the carton

has any of you people who replied to my post, actually been to birdsville? Yes , I can afford to drink, Im taking my own, but I thought it may have been more convenient for me to use the pub for beers and alosI want to work out how much money I may need to take...I dont want to be left short as Im sure there is not too many holes in the wall out in the middle of the desert, for you people that dont know what that means, that would be an eftpos machine. So if anybody has been there and has an idea how much beers or schooners are worth would be much appreciated..people who havent been there need not reply to my post..thankyou, bushy steve.

BushySteve,We have been to the racers and spend too many hours in the pub on our numerious trips to Birdsville. A beer in a can from memory was $4 one year (I think - I may have had too many). Anyway the pub has EFTPOS facilites (think Theo at Birdsville Auto may - don't hold me to it) so you can spend as much as you have got. One thing to remember is that there is so much going on at races time you may find that you spend money on the many are various activities around town. Such as the boxing tent, t shirts, betting at the race's etc etc. Drinking is just one way to part with the hard earned but rest assured there are many ways to spend it in Birdsville at race's time.Enjoy David

I just rang the Pub for your and found out the answer to this question. Schooners are new to Birdsville - only had them for about 3 months, very exciting. Now at Races time there will not be tap beer available because of the problem with glass. Just as there is only ever beer in cans available. Cost is $4 per can (they usually make a special commemorative can also) and a carton is $42 (even for locals!) Light beer is $36. Hope I got this right for you. Enjoy - call in and say hello.
Ruth
