Can anyone give some feedback on the Ox Winch, i am looking into putting a winch on the prado and the OX 10000lb came into the equation. Are they OK or should i give them a miss?

Don't know about the electric but my 10000lb Ox hydraulic has never had a problem. Doesn't get much use but always works when I have used it.

Mine is strong enough to pull my Rodeo towards a seriously bogged Patrol. That's with my foot on the brake with all 4 wheels locked up on dirt.
It's been in salt
water spray and salty air (beach), under fresh
water and mud. The only maintenance it has had is too unspool the rope and respool it while washing it down.
Plus it was free.......I just paid for the Rodeo specific hydroulic hoses $210.

Agree. I have an OX hydraulic - may be a bit slower than the electric, but an excellent winch.

MJS,
I have fitted them and now that I have the Troppy I one. Had to use it on the last trip, took a little time to work outy the two levers but after that it was great.
A couple of things that are different,
The motor is only at idle, no need to try and keep the battery charged,
There is no need to stop every few seconds to let the motor on the winch cool and the battery to re-charge,
The winch is very quite, it does not have the noise of the gears turning
The winch is slow but if a electric winch was run through a snatch block it would be about the same speed
The winch has a quick rewind so that rewinding the cable is quicker than an electric
If you were winching your own vehicle the moment the steering wheel is turned the winch stops pulling and all the power from the power steering pump goes to the steering
No one can use the winch unless the motor is running, unlike an electric which anyone can use if they have a hand remote or a paper clip. The result is a flat battery and a winch cable tighen up over the roof of the vehicle.

They are the same as the Brawn and a couple of other chinese manufatured
winches. I'd check out the Brawn as they strips the
winches down and
water proof them as
well as rewire control boxes for better reliability. I almost bought one but then a good 2nd hand Warn 10k came along.

I visited the site that rock hoper stated, ie, www.LC4x4.cjb.net, with a "sorry, no results were found for that site"???
I see that there are T-Max
winches currently for sale on ebay. Are they the same one? I have wondered how bulbar
winches fair under
water during
creek crossings. I've looked up the specs for various
winches & they don't include IP ratings (International Protection), so how does one can get an idea how long they will last underwater?

The Ox, T Max and Brawn all comeout of the same factory.
I will be ordering a Brawn 10,000lb electric for my patrol they are
water proof and synthetic rope compatible. With the hydraulic look at getting a power steering cooler as in extreme winching the hydraulic fliud will get very hot. This can risk of burning out the pump. Also engine not running no winch.

We had a 10,000 lb OX hydraulic winch on our F250 and the 2 times that I tried to pull bogged vehicles out of the ocean waves in WA I found that it wouldn't move them at all, and didn't drag me towards them. I found that the previous vehicles with 9,000 ln Warn
winches was much stronger.
I have since taken it back to TJM and traded it on a 15,000 lb OX electric that works fine, but haven't had to really try it in anger yet.
After they changed it over, I was informed that the cause of the poor performance was probably due to the power steering pump having a pressure relief valve and that would prevent the winch operating at maximum torque.
It would have probably worked a lot better using a seperate hydraulic pump but they cost money also, so I think I will stick to electric
winches that I have always found work fine for my circumstances where they are only used for short periods anyway.
