Anyone had any experience with rac (Western Oz) for 4by insurance? I have
my home and contents with them and they have been faultless with the few small claims I have made. I purchased an 80 series today and had arranged insurance with them (21 days free look) going by experiences with insurance from other forumites I asked if it was covered while 4wding and was told as long as it is in oz that is the only place it isnt covered regardless and she directed me to the booklet which had very few restrictions (except on unagreed mods)

gday
I have both my 4bys through RAC, I had a bad expereince back in May when I hit a 12 year old kid on a push bike, who just flew out in front of me,, luckily he was ok with a very sore body and bad cuts, he bent the roo bar right back in the corner pushing into my body work breaking the lights etc,,
RAC came up with the goods to repair my truck, over the phone, and I didnt have to pay any access or loose my no fault claim , everyone to their choice, but Im happy with RAC and will renew with them again

I have been an RAC member with
breakdown cover for many years. My only MV claims experience with RAC are not recent so things may have improved. Back then, they were a cheaper premium than most, but wanted repairs out of second hand parts, even for a near new model. I was never insured with them, just claiming against them when their customers have damaged my vehicles. Also from talking to a panel beater i know - they know best of all who pays up and who is hard to deal with. They are not the only insurance co to want second hand parts like this i might add. Looks like from above people's experiences, things are better now. Ask them about their repair policy and if they'll cover new parts if you have a claim. Ask a local panel beater if you know one
well.

I have my Troopy insured with the WA RAC for a couple of years now. The signing up was no drama, they didn't want a list if every conceivable accessory, if its on the vehicle that was good enough. They did a pre insurance inspection, the bloke just walled around the vehicle and that was it.
The so called 4wd insurance through 4wd clubs is no longer economical/feasible when you take club
membership fees and insurance consortium etc into account, and based on experience with a claim one is dealing with a twerp in an eastern states office who is always going to keep you informed but never does, and when you ring up to find out what's happening the twerp says we're waiting for you to do this or supply that, and it the first you knew of it.

I have had a number of cars insured with them over the years. every so often i try some one else but end up going back to them. This is based on premiums though.
The real
test of a insurer is in how they handle your claim and i have only ever had one claim through them. They were good to deal with and fixed the car properly, it also helps using a good repair
shop as they are the go between the insurer and the customer.
The one i used in Mundaring was excellent, fixed the car
well, did a great deal on a loana (94 Model Audi). Got the car back to me when he said he would.
In summary as a Insurer i feel their pretty good.

Davoe - better late than never - as the above people have said they don't appear to be too bad. I put my Maverick on its roof (a soft roll - said the panelbeater) a couple of years ago on the
Great Central Road when on the way for a 5month posting to
Darwin. Ended up driving it back to Kalgoorlie where it was handed over to the RAC who trucked it to
Perth and it was ready for me when I returned 5 months later. New panels and roof and glass and stuff and new paint all over and no problems with accessories - new roof rack. Old roo bar though - just a bit crooked but then again it gets to hit plenty and may straighten itself up one day. Now for the bummer - I was with their PLUS (I think that's what it was called) and supposedly gave accom and all sorts of extras. Not worth the paper it was written on if it involved an accident. By the time I got through to the Eastern States switchboard operator and we established there is no train or bus to get me
home that night from
Laverton and anyway you can't be too bad if you have driven it for 8hrs.............you get the drift. I see the RAC now offers some other extras but I would be checking them very very closely. The basic stuff for repairs etc is good and good cooperation from them. Also at the time the Maverick had modified
suspension and no problems (still has) - just make sure you list everything. Even further back in the ages I had a HZ Premier wagon - worked 308 etc. Stolen and smashed and repaired - had
WB Caprice front end and they replaced it as I had put it on the original insurance doc. rgds
