My cruiser started jumping out of low range today when it was under load going down hill, any suggestions as to why?

Is the lever hitting on the body anywhere? EG slide the boot out the way and have a look...

what model cruiser?

It happens when people do body lifts. the lever doesnt lock correctly into LOW, then when it bounces around it jumps out..

It is a 91 model 80 seies diesel, I have a suspension lift but not a body lift, but that was put on years ago and it only started jumping out yesterday.

Assuming it is a manual selector.

Use it often? Low range that is. Maybe in the linkage is a bit stiff (not going all the way into position) or possible that the detent ball is jammed up. If you can hear the ball clicking as you move through h4 to l4 (from underneath) then I'm wrong and your problem is inside.

What model cruiser?

It does get used a lot, l will do a least one weekend of serious off-road work per month. It is a manual selector, its in a 91 80 series diesel (standard)

Gday Stuart Is your 80 part time or full time??
I had a full time 80 that did that going up hills...interestiing baptism of fire sliding back down to the bottom of the hill out of control....i think it was because the bearings in the transfer were worn enough to move the gear (and selector) fork out of the detent that holds it there.
Fix would be a new set of bearings for it.
