Oooh...I knew I forgot something. Any tips on where are the best places to mount fire exstinguishers in a disco so that they are easily at hand?

Gus77,

In the Disco or any vehicle, the fire exstinguisher should be mounted where the driver can reach it straight away.

On the floor just in front of the drivers seat is the best. If you have two, same place on the passenger side.

Most of the time a fire will start under the dash or when the vehicle is been driven.

I have seen a lot of exstinguishers mounted on the cargo side of the cargo barrier. That is great to show the world that you have a exstinguisher, but to get to it in a hurry not a very easy.

Most exstinguisters are only 1/ 1.5kg so that you don't get a lot of powder to put out the fire, so it pays to get to the fire before it gets too big.

It is recommened to mount the exstingiusher horizontal, that will stop the powder from packing down, it should also be taken out and given a good shake or do a trip to Cape York.

I'd tend to be careful about that. Mine specifically recommend vertical mount.

Hi Gus

I did not think of the floor in front of the drivers seat - I like to be able to access this area for street directory, wallet etc. I mounted our extinguisher on the front of the cargo barrier up reasonably high so it is out of the way and on the drivers side. figured it will hopefully be easy enough to leap out and get it when we come to a stop. mounted horizontal.

Cheers

Garry

Hi gazza
Just remember in an accident the car stops quick, the clip can let go of the fire extinguisher, that is quite a heavy projectile heading towards you.
might be better to mount on the floor next to the seat.
regards Bob

I'll go with the floor near the driver and passenger also . However it's not always that easy.

A few weeks ago we got called to a car fire and the poor bloke didn't even have time to get to the extinguisher on the floor in front of the seat .
Within about 1 minute the whole car was ablaze ,we got there in two and he would have had no hope even if he got the thing out and tried to use it . Didn't even get his keys out .
From the time he saw the smoke to the time he was able to stop the car and get out was about 15 seconds (his account) but by then it was too late .
I would probably have one right at the back next to the rear door just in case you don't get time in the front .

aaah... reminds me of the old tip of a couple of tinneys sitting on the dash so if need be you just grabbed 'em and they were pressurized by the heat and jolting, ready to release on small fires. Can't see myself treating beer like that, well maybe some beer?
