Could any users of Great Desert tracks gps CD tell me if it includes detailed maps of the gary junction rd and gary hwy between WA and NT and other roads /tracks linkiing to it.
I am Currently using Discover Aus Streets and tracks which does not appear to have these roads on it.
If you have both -what are the advantages of The Great desert Tracks cd as it is a bit pricey

If someone tells me how to attach a PDF file to a message I will post a sample of what the map covers in the region for you. Alternatively, if you post your email address I will email it to you

email sent. let me know if you didn't get it ok.

I guess it would be useful to know how to post hyperlinks anyway if there are any guru's about

RuffStuff,

I suspect that you are talking about the GDT Magellan CD and not the GDT maps from HEMA. These are two products the Magellan CD version of this is for loading the tracks onto the Magellan GPS unit or via moving map using the Magellan inferface (this products costs around $250) the other version being the GDT maps CD (costs $79) is for using with products like OziExplorer linked to your GPS and the map details cannot be uploaded to the GPS receiver.

These are two different versions of the product and perform slightly different functions however they are both build on the same map data.

I run and have copies of all these products and just about every other digital map product. If you want more info on this please call me direct on 08 9403 3737 or email me at david@exploroz.com.

Ruffstuff - Gary Junction Road and others are on the DiscoverAus CD (DAST) - you just have to zoom in past ~50,000 scale - minor tracks do not show on the screen unless you zoom in at this level - a bit of a bugger if you dont know excactly where to look as it is very easy to zoom in on barren desert country and then get peeved off panning across 500km of map at 25km at a time. You can modify a file in the program to make all tracks show at all zoom levels. (slows the computer down a bit I must say)

Another issue - Garry Juction Rd is called Kiwirrkurra Road on the DAST.

The Great Desert Tracks CD (GDT) actually has less tracks than the DiscoverAus CD...so dont buy it expecting more info. The track information for SOME tracks on GDT may however be more up todate (ie accurate) which I think is their main selling point. That is to say the extra tracks shown on DAST may no longer exist/overgrown or be position incorrectly + a few newer roads included on GDT.

Cheers
Greg

Ok navigate :) to the
Magellan\Australian's Desert\Map\Desert_Tracks directory

find map.ini file and make a backup copy (note there are other map.ini files in other directorys - make sure you find the right one)

Open map.ini with notepad or some other text editor - find the [ACLV_INFO] section shown below. The number after the = sign determines at what zoom level that feature will be displayed - if you put 0 after the = then that feature will always be dispalyed...here is my modified file with all types of roads always shown.

[ACLV_INFO]
DA_Highways=0 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Major_Roads=0 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Major_Unseal=0 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Streets=0 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Min_Unseal=0 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Trails_4WD=0 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Railroads=1 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Hydro_Polygons=1 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Hydro_Lines=1 1 10001.000000 0
DA_Border=1 1 10001.000000 0

Save the file and away you go

Have fun

Cheers

Wooops - sorry - just realised you have DAST and not GDT ....OK same principle different directory. With DAST the different states must be modfied individually ....for WA go to
DiscoverAus\Map\Steet_WA and modify the [ACLV_INFO] section in map.ini file
e.g. change this

[ACLV_INFO]
WA_Highways=1 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Major_Roads=1 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Streets=1 1 501.000000 0
WA_Trails_4WD=1 1 501.000000 0
WA_Railroads=1 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Hydro_Polygons=1 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Hydro_Lines=1 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Parks=1 1 1001.000000 0

to this

[ACLV_INFO]
WA_Highways=0 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Major_Roads=0 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Streets=0 1 501.000000 0
WA_Trails_4WD=0 1 501.000000 0
WA_Railroads=1 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Hydro_Polygons=1 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Hydro_Lines=1 1 1001.000000 0
WA_Parks=1 1 1001.000000 0

Keep in mind may take a while to draw as all the streets in cities will be drawn - maybe just try the WA_Trails_4WD first.

Do the same to the other state files to get same effect,

Cheers

Hello again - to get all "outback" tracks to show you must have the Steets and Trails section in [ACLV_INFO] set to 0 ...ie for some reason some of the tracks in the desert are classified as streets!!.

I have the OziExplorer track files for the Gary Junction Rd between Kintore and the CSR if they are of any use to you. I can email them if needed.
