I am looking at going on a holiday to tasmania. I wish to fly however I was wondering if i can send my car on the Spirit of Tasmania even though I wont be travelling with them. Can anyone tell me if i can do this and how much it will cost me. Is it worth taking our 4WD or would it be better to hire a smaller car when we get there? Thanks.

Hey Kelli. If you travel on the Spirits with your vehicle, I believe there is a minimal charge for the vehicle. Last time I travelled (last year) I think the car was $20. My trailer cost about $150 extra though!

Kelli,
It's currently free to take your car if you are travelling with it. Check out www.tt-line.com.au for prices of unaccompanied vehicles. Mark

Things may have changed, but you were not able to send an unaccompanied car on the Spirit. The new ones may have changed the rules. Otherwise there is a freighting service via another ship. Are you worried about the sea travel? I get violently ill and have travelled FIFTEEN times over the last ten years. Let me know if you want to know how to do it and survive! Cheers Royce

Kelli,

Brambles Shipping provide an un-accompanied service on their roll-on roll-off ships directly into Burnie. Under this arrangement, you can ship your car a little earlier and spend more time at work before flying to Burnie. You will need to look up their website.
