Hi all
I have a squealing noise coming from my patrol (3.0td manual, 2002 model. Travelled 75000kms) when the revs are btwn 2000 & 3000rpm when I'm accelerating. Has anybody else had this problem.
Nissan service said it was the pretensioner for the belt. They changed it and the noise is still there (which they found out when they tested it). The noise is not there when the truck is stationary, only there when moving. At first I thought it was a leaf/something caught in air vents but no such luck. Nissan want truck for whole day to try and find it.

Anyone have any ideas or had similar problem.

Sounds like belt noise, A/C, tensioner or alternator even power steering pully, get them to check them all.

Blue patrol,

Check the clutch on the air conditioner compressor, these 3.0L's have a habit of seizing them.
Mine made a similar noise before it went.
Nissan will replace under warranty if warranty is still current.

My 2004 3.0lt had a squealing noise at about 25k. Although i could only hear it at idle, it may hvae been happening at higher revs but it wasnt audible.

It was the belt tensioner and was replaced under warranty. This apparantly is a known fault and there is a fix from Nissan and it involves replacing, tensioner, belt and bottom pulley and water pump. All these components need to be replaced because of possible damage, i.e the belt may be glazed and will always makes noises.

If they have only replaced the tensioner the cause of the noise may be one of the other components now.

sounds like a turbo/boost noise ,rev engine at these revs stationary as there is no load on turbo and see if it still makes the noise

Morcs

Thanks for the reply. This noise is not present when the vehicle is stationary and the engine revs to btwn 2 & 3000rpm. As I said it's only there when under load and going along highway at these revs
