Now I know some already know about this, but I've just started using it and it works a treat.
Go towards the top of the page to the heading "Switch Sort Options" and click on "Response Time". This will then sort threads in order of when there was last a response to them. That is, the thread with the most recent input will automatically go to the top. So if there has been a thread that you had some interest in that has had a new contribution, it will pop up again, rather than having to go looking for it to see if anything has happened there.
With the popularity of this
forum a thread disappears to page 2 or 3 in days, never to be seen again. Would also help with
frequently asked questions eg fridges. Such a thread would keep dragging itself up, thus resulting in less posts on the same subject.
David, I reckon this should be the default setting as it is more practical. Another
forum I use is set up this way and I have always found it easier to use. It would probably reduce the number of posts and thus save you dough. Just my opinion.
Cheers,
Jim.

Actually I prefer the post ID order, I can tell the new posts that way and generally remember whether the one I seek is beofre of after the last one Wolfie posted......

Ahh Jimbo I am the ultimate early adopter, and yes I am old too hahahaha, and change....why on earth they invented 5 and 10 cent coins astonishes me, we should round off to the nearest $10 in my opinion.

Hey Jimbo,
I use another
forum for sailing which brings up the posts, as you have said, in order of most recent response.
I agree with you that this works much better for me too and I also would like to see this as the default setting for this
forum.
It does simplify the process of keeping track of the posts that I have had input into and I don't have to keep going back to see if there has been input from others.
As you have said it does also reduce having many threads on the same topic. I am sure there are many who are sick of talking about tyres on this
forum.
Have a great day!
Brett

I would also prefer an option which allows one to identify all posts (within a certain time range) . Several other forums fequent have this and it is really helpful. I can
logon , click on my name and then I have a page popup displaying recent threads in which I have participated.

You can do this by typing your name into the search option, but it doesn't seem to pick up all of your posts all of the time.
Cheers,
Jim.

Jimbob,
Thanks for the tip, I'll have a crack at it.
Like you it's the format used on some other sites (fishing) I visit and I reckon it works
well, it keeps the interesting topics on the main page for longer rather than relegated to obscurity by some FAQ's.
The only downside I see is that when there's a 5hit fight and plenty of negative comments being thrown around it tends to flame the situation due to it being in the spotlight for longer.
Cheers........Browny

Jimbo again,
While I'm going, I also think it tends to bring out the "self promotors" that generally offer nothing more than criticism, who sit around looking for posts to put down or ridicule rather than offer any constructive advice and never post any sort of question them selves for FEAR of ridicule they just love to see there name "up in lights" so to speak
I can't think of to many from this site though..................:-)

That is a point that I have never thought of before Browny and that makes sense. It does fuel the fire of negativity for too long sometimes.
Cheers,
Brett
