A mate of mine is convinced that his next set of tyres will be procomp for his 80 series TD. He is on his second set of Dunlop AT2's, and he's just as unhappy with this second set as he was with the first. DOH !!

After talking to him about the virtues of ExploreOz, he asked if I could ask the good people known as forumites for any feed back.

The tyres he's after would be somewhere around "All Terrain".

Thanks,

Muzz

Why is he convinced?

There are good tires in the Procomp Range, EG the X Terrian which is not really an AT, but Procomps are $$.. There could be better tires for the $

I have had a set of Pro Comp AT's on my 3l GU for about 45,OOOkm. At this stage a bit over 1/2 worn. This is not really a true indication of wear as they were purchased 2nd hand after being used for the 4x4 monthly AT tyre test a while back. The 4 used for test were pretty chopped up, 5th brand new. Got them for a very good price. I bought a 6th and am rotating in pairs. They handle very well on tar and gravel, are sweet on sand and handle mud OK as well. Equal to or better tham BFG's I have had in the past. Would buy again if I can afford it at the time. Price is the main problem- a darn good good tyre IMHO but $$$ a bit steep.

And $$$$???? Well... yes, they are a bit exxy but we put ours on twelve months interest free finance... paid 'em out in time and laughin'!!!!!!!

Hi Muzz. The ply rating is tread-2 ply steel+2 ply Polyester, sidewall-2 ply Polyester. There are a couple of things I did not mention before which apply to the aesthetics of these tires. The side walls are scuffing a bit and look a bit messy and the shape of the tyre narrows down at the tread, which makes them look narrower than the same size in some other brands. Therefore they do not look as chuncky which in some peoples veiw equals bang for your bucks. These do not concern me as these tires are perfect for my needs. (Now they are in the last 1/2 of their life they have lost a little bit of the wet road adhesion as most AT's do) I am happy with them.

Cheers

Chris
