I have had the steering coupling fail on my 80 series, i have recent bought the cruiser, it has a 50mm (2") body lift and im not sure whether this was the cause, my mechanic said he had never seen one fail before, it seems to be the original one. has anyone else had or know of this happening before, maybe on any 4wd with a lift ?????

Mark,
I had my engineer highlight this problem with my 40 series after a 2" lift. The rubber coupling wasnt designed to operate at the increased angle produced when the body (steering column) is lifted away from the chassis (steering box). All i had to do was space out the steering column to reduce the angle of the coupling.
Hope this helps.
