"look dad.... its one of those MQ Patrol to Hummer conversions gone very wrong... and they've put on a toyota badge to make it look like tough crap instead of just crap"

They certainly are doing well to fuel the Anti 4WD debate- hell if I saw a 4-foot tall soccer mum driving around the shop carpark in one of these i'd be getting out of the way.

Big is good - more room for toys . I am sure there will be somewhere to put in a 200 litre long range tank .
It will be tough to drive on some tracks in the scrub made by narrower wheelbase vehicles .

There is one in Brisbane at a Toyota Dealer, Motorama or something like that.
Probably more manouverable than a troopy due to the 4wheel steering.
Not much wider than a 100 series either.

As an old diesel mechanic myself - "4 cylinder diesels are Mickey Mouse, always were, always will be".

I don't care if it's "new technology" or not - "Mickey Mouse". Diesels should be 6 cyls or V8's.

That max power is way up the rev range. The max torque figure comes in fairly low though. That would make the mains and big ends strain a bit. Hope thier big enough ;)

The 15BTFT motor has 4 valves per cyl and is well tested in Hinos trucks.
After reading about the engine problems with hummers in Iraq the yanks probably wished they had gone with the mega
You can get the same engine ,trans and axle/diffs in a 4wd hino without the rear steer.
If anyone wants to buy a mega cruiser there is often a ex civilain defence parts vehicle and a mint example on Yahoo auctions JAPAN

Of course they should, lets have a look

Nissan GQ = 4.2 with a blistering 96 kw...........peel me off the wall

The Toyota 4.2 that couldn't pull the skin of a three day old custard up a hill without a turbo...Mmmmm 100 Series 4.2 = 96 Kw and 285 Nm.

My mere 3 litre 4 pot TD (96 Kw and 343 Nm) leaves the 100 series natural diesel for dead...........and so does the Patrol 3.0 TD....

Perhaps you should have converted the figures...

The Megacruiser, although I'm not a fan of them, has 112 Kw of pwerand 382 Nm of Torque, I think that is a little bit more than the 4.2. Considering the "4 Cylinder" is 4.1 Litres, admittedly it is Intercooled Turbo, it makes the 4.2 6 cylinder look a little sad.............

I do like the 4.2 Diesel but only if it has an intercooler and turbo.......

Motorama 4x4xmore on the soutside of Brisbane have one in their showroom.

Too damm wide for anything i reckon. I get enough scratches on forestry trails in the dual cab, let alone a megacruiser with is much wider.

Its the japs trying to keep up with the yanks. The sooner they realise they should stick with what they know the better of we will all be.

Thats my opinion of course :)

4 cylinder engine in a Hummer clone = joke. I'm sure it's good, but designers need to remember that "personality goes a long way". If your gonna make something 'beastie', make it cool too. It's what makes the difference between a classic car, and just a 'tool'.

Same thing as Chrysler spending zillions tooling up and manufacturing a retro hot rod, then powering it with a 6 cylinder engine. Someone totally, utterly and completely missed the point.
