Ralph, dunno about the sites but in SA you only have to stay in LH lane if speed limit is above 80km/h (that means 90 or over) or unless othewise signed. However, I agree even on metro roads you get peanuts doing 50 or even 55 is still annoying, when you just want to get home from work or make tracks on you holiday!

yep them 03 Xtrails are really old now, I think they should be taken off the road and the plastic scrapped.

I hope your not comparing an X trail V an Hilux?

not at all mate, im actually on the market for a hilux but a mate is minutes away from signing the contract on a 03 x-trail. why the bad rap? (so i can pass on some justified reasons)

Xtrail is a top little car mate. A soft roader, yes, but it has a very good reputation for reliability. It is easy to drive, comfy and gives 10l/100km regularly. It is pretty good on the beach and out on gravel roads.

As Willem said they are a top little car for doing what they are designed for - getting out and about - for your mate though probably three things to look for:
1. Check it has had both recalls done - 2003 should be a Series 1 (if its a series 2 its not a prob)
2. Check the tyres - the ome toyos are expensive about 240 each - but there is a growing range of replacement and ATs coming out
3. If he is going to do a lot of sand driving (soft stuff) be aware that the 4wd system can overheats and reverts to 2wd (about 20minutes to cool). It has something to do with the electroclutch that provides the quick auto mode activation (or something) - I have never had it but know others have but it lots of continuos soft sand

But as I mentioned - its good
