To all those who here the rumours.
Has anybody heard if and when the Prado will be released with the 1KD-FTV turbo diesel engine to replace the 1KZ-TE?
Significant difference in power and fuel economy.
If the Prado is going to have this engine I shall wait to part with my hard earned cash until this happens.
Our local Toyota dealer tells me today it is several months wait on a new hilux as there isn't enough in the country. Take this one or its wait. I said no thanks.

Seems like no one knows :-(

My guess is that it will be released early 2006 (Toyota usually have their releases at the start of the year)
Power is about 120 Kw, but max torque is not a lot different, except it starts at lower revs.
Fuel consumption has been quoted in the past to be 9% better than the 1KZ-TE.

Quite frankly, I don't think its a lot better than the current 1KZ-TE.

Cheers
Phil

AND the 1kz-te has 15 years of proven reliability, AND the 1kz-te is QUIETER.
But hey, if someone dropped a brand new TD in the surf for nothin I'd probally be quite happy! ;-)

9% is pretty crap really considering it's a 5 speed auto over the 4 speed as well, I would have thought you'd get 9% just in the gearbox change as the 4 speed is at about 2200-2300 at 100kmhr on mine, a little high IMHO, not sure what the prados like with the 4 speed though.
