Recently purchased 2005 Pajero, fitted with towbar, now find the rear door can only be opened about 300ml with a Caravan or trailer attached - has anyone else come across this?

Our NM has a HR bar and is fine with normal trailers. With the treg and our camper the door fouls the handbrake lever but is still nearly half way open-- enough to get to the fridge.
HY make all sorts of tongue combos. Was talking to them at Melb show recently and it was really just a case of telling them what we wanted and they would have it or close to.

Hi Pojo,

Try turning the tounge around the other way, else can get a tongue with different offset.

pojo,

the hassle of a single door really. Have a 2002 and there is some restriction with boat trailer and 6 x 4 trailer. 300mm seems strange though.

Thinking of upgrading to the new Pajero model. Any info you can offer to compare to the 2002 model.

The 2002 is beautiful to drive, the semi-auto is great through hills and towing. handles off road well (high speed gravel and low range obsticles - nver taken t in ud) and high speed corners well. (compared to 2002 prado which feels like your going to roll going the same speed around the same corner)
on the down, the V6 likes a drink. The rim size has minimal tyre options and tyre wear is terrible. Have to allign and rotate often.

As others have said, it's a common problem with a single rear door. Have a look at some different hitch options here campertrailers.org.

I have the ORAC coupling on my camper trailer. Has the lowest profile and doesn't interfere with the rear door (NM Pajero). The only thing that gets in the way is the spare wheel on the trailer but when I stop for a break I jacknife the trailer and can then open the door fully.

Life's full of compromises... :-p
