Planning to do CSR in a 1998 Pajero petrol fitted with 150ltr tank in mid August 2005, would like some feedback on petrol availability, road conditiond and how much water and fuel we need to carry.

G'daye Eric,
Water isn't a real issue on the Canning,still need at least 60 litres though, and you will need enough fuel for 1100km some of which is fairly demanding sand dune driving.We experienced similar town driving consumption but we were only doing 30/40 km/hr because of the nature of the track.
You can get fuel dropped off at well 23 which comes in from Newman and you do need to order 6 weeks in advance. Fuel is available at the Kunawarritji community, near well 33.We paid $1.80l for diesel last year. Kunawarritji is about 800 from Hall's ck. The wild flowers in Aug./Sept are fantastic, we are going back in 07.
It's not hard to take 200 shots or more.
Carry only empty jerry cans on your roof, full ones make your vehicle centre of gravity too high, you could roll.
Which direction do you intend to go North or South?
Good supplies of groceries, veges as well, at Wiluna and the other end Hall's ck.

Hi Eric,

We are heading across the CSR in September from Wiluna to Halls Creek, my research has the following distances;

Wiluna to Well 33 (fuel available near Well 33) Distance 1017kms - Allow 10% extra - 1120kms
The average fuel consumption recorded on this site for a 6 cyl ULP is 5.6k per litre.
So if my calculations are correct, you will need to carry 200 litres.

Well 33 to Halls Creek (fuel available at Halls Creek) Distance 900km - Allow 10% extra - 990K
Fuel required 177 litres.

Regards
Phil P
