I think it's time to include a spell check function to this site!. What do the Managers think of including a spell check function?

If you use Firefox, get spellbound

Should have added that you can use it for all web postings on all sites also not just on here, so is more useful than a dedicated EO system.

personally I think that if we're not sure then we should look it up ourselves and find out the correct spelling.
Doesn't make a whole lot of difference to me in the end and if David sees fit then good on him but I'll manage without it.
Not a dig , just my thoughts

Yes, I agree that an edit function would be handy...

prob'ly best if it was "active" for only a limited time after message is posted, otherwise ppl would be editing their posts left, right & centre, and things could get thrown right "out of whack"...

I'm OK wit tha spelun (I think???;-))

Bugger the edit feature!
If we had that, people would be able to change posts and they wouldnt get the ragging they so often deserve.

An idea is to not post whilst drunk....

Sparky, you can always us a spell checker on your computer. Well perhaps not you specifically but contributers can and cut and paste the checked passage to the response. It is on the local computer after all and doesn't get to the remote til you actually press.

Just type it into a word processor and cut and paste. My problems are the typos anyway rather than misspelt words...........

How often do i see my mis-typing as the words vanish after I have pressed submit! I would prefer an ability to edit our own posts.

I see some pretty amazing typing and spelling on the forum - but don't mind in the least - we can still read the meaning. We live in a world of sms, msn, email - all "quick communiciation" where bad typing, spelling, and the abbreviations we wonder over are all the go.

By the way, this from me, who my children well remebmer how i used to get the yellow highlighter on the school newsletters and send them back to the teacher - now they should do better, so deserve to be corrected.

Oh, you mean like this ?

"By the way, this from me, who my children well remebmer how i used to get the yellow highlighter on the school newsletters and send them back to the teacher - now they should do better, so deserve to be corrected."

remember spelt incorrectly
"i" needs to be a capital letter
"to get the yellow highlighter onto"
change to "used to use the yellow highlighter on"
teacher...singular, they plural....please don't mix.
Suggest re phrasing the last part of the very one long sentence, possibly breaking it into two more coherent sentences.

Footy...former teacher

(yep, we all make mistakes, don't we:))))))))

(and boy will I get some flak over this one)

LoL..that is too close to home Footloose, my wife is a teacher and is always telling me to put a few full stops in my replies. I just tell her I type it like I'd say it, and we aren't getting marked on it...little did I know!

Definitely agree that we need an edit function, or at the very least a fake first submit, because just like Motherhen said, I see all my mistakes the second the reply is on it's way

Sorry Motherhen. The opportunity was too good to resist. My grammar and spelling often slips on the net, but it's usually an informal medium of communication.
I'd have to agree that many education systems have a lot to answer for. The other day I was helping someone address a list of criteria for a job application with Qld Health, and the application form had an error !

Saw this today and thought it fitted this thread I bet most can read and understand it. Carolyn

Rindercella

Rindercella and her sugly isters lived in a marge lansion.

Rindercella worked very hard - frubbing scloors, emptying poss pits
and shivelling shot. At the end of the day she was nloody backered.

The sugly isters were right bugly astards. One was called Chairy Hest and the other was called Hetty Swands. They were really yorrible and hucky and had fetty sweet .

The sugly isters had tickets to go to the ball but the botton ritches wouldn't let Rindercella go.

Suddenly there was a bighty mang and her gairy fodmother appeared.

She purned a tumpkin and six mite whice into a cuge farriage with six hite worses.

The gairy fodmother told Rindercella to be back by dimnight otherwise there would be a clopppin falamity

Ummmmmmmm dear MOTH if your look up under the tools on the computer you will see iespell...... it has been there for a couple of years. Personally I think typos add character and expression to posts but then I am only a SWBO.

Pity spell checkers don't fix the grammar!
I agree with Carolyn that spellling errors add character and interest to the forum. Prizes should be given for originality and creativity!
