Hi all,

Is there anybody that has any info, experience, tip & tricks on putting a holden commodore v6 3.8ltr into a pajero 85 model. Is it a good idea? (the original engine 4D55 has a stuffed head + ) Are there any drawbacks? & Or Problems?

Cheers
Andrew

4D55, That would be the diesel wouldn't it.

If so, man your in for a big time cost, regardless of the engine costs.

Everthing will need to be changed ALL electrics, ALL fuel lines and tanks. IMO forget it and go buy something else.

Scare yourself, check with Marks Adapters.
MARKS
They specialize in conversions and kits for conversions.

Are you thinking of undertaking the work yourself or gettign it done?

Your options are

1) price another Paj donk from a wrecker, same or even later model one would be easier than a V6 Comm...

2) get a quote on a rebuild on your current motor. It lasted a long time and lotta KLMS as it is, or is it a common problem with that motor?

3) Get a price from a wrecker on a V6, (but what more people do is to buy a smashed commodore for $1000-1500 and get the motor out that way, comes with all electrics and more, then wreck the rest to get some money back.

4) wreck the car, try to salvage $ that way and get a newer car.

Conversions are usually around the $10,000 mark depending on who, where and when. I know of a few that have ended up well over $14000 for V6's in to Lux's... and still not right.

Thanks all for your responses, i've spoken to mark's and a complete kit to put in the v6 & 4sp gearbox would be $2300,

i'm just toying with the idear that if i've got to go through an engine swap i'd like to give it a bit more power the 4d55 is a turbo diesel - but fairly slugish,
i believe pajero's have a problem with 5th gear. i was also considering the future parts cost - holden vs mitsubsihi

Has anyone heard anything along the lines of diff problems ie ratios with the v6??

Thanks All
Andrew

I'll go along with that. Get a GQ SWB for $8-15k...

With yours, If you up the motor you will have to up the running gear, and if you have heard rumours of problems already before starting.

Think long and hard ....

maybe just get a new head and patch it up, flog it off and go from there.
