There have been a number of posts regarding road conditions in the far north west of NSW recently.

Listneing to the local ABC here in Broken Hill this morning the list of closures is taking about 3 min to read through, so I thought I would put this up to let you know what is going on. The road closures are extensive and the list is growing daily, I expect there to be road closures for at least the next couple of weeks because most are being caused by flooding of the Paroo and water in the Buloo Overflow. But different roads will open and close almost on a daily basis.

If you are planning a trip in the area north and west of Cobar or in the Ivanhoe Menindee area you need to get information from a reliable source immediately before you travel. Either the morning you set off or the night before.

The simplest way to access information would be to call the Broken Hill Visitor Infromation Centre on

1800 630 008.

The centre is open, I think, 9am to 5pm South Australian time.

They will also be able to give advice on things that you can get to and how to re-organise your trip to make the most of the area. Even with the road closures, there is still plenty to see.

Yep spot on Duncs. It has rained very steady for a couple of days here in Cobar and the water is even flowing accross the main highways at the causeways (not enough to stop traffic but take care). The rain has also been long and steady and not a flash flood so to speak. So yes expect the dirt roads to be out for a while as the water has had a good chance to soak in.

Sorry if it stuffs your holidays everyone but we'd had 11mm total for the year up until the beginning of this month. We need it bad!!! (plus now I can actually get my cruiser muddy for the first time in 6 months)

Cheers,
Hughesy

Agreed we received 4 update faxes in three hours yesterday and I have not yet updated the NSW reports to the new format. It will be easier soon but the migration is taking a little longer (read harder) than was first hoped.

We have full copies of the reports also so members are welcome to contact us for these updates. We are on the same fax stream as the visitor center.

Take care and until our new system is linked to NSW it would be worth ringing first.

I have just completed the update to Outback NSW road conditions and update to new format - I will add dynamic mapping ASAP. See the updates at Road Conditions NSW.
