Hi Turbo
It will be with great interest to read what replies get posted to your question.
Back in 2002 we were told by a few "locals" that they were considering putting the pipline up the OTL and that the OTL would be closed off forever.
Why, too much damage being done to those that either don't know how to 4WD properly and were "cowboying" the OTL.
Maybe those that take tours up to the Cape will have more knowledge of what is going to happen?

I cant believe how stupid the Queensland Govt are about recieving gas from PNG, the pipeline will probably last a few years and then local landowners in PNG will close it down because they generally get upset with their National Govt of the day.
History proves that, those that are recieving gas will have an interupted service.

Cheers

Little by little, almost so slowly you'd barely notice, the wide open spaces of this country that people on this forum love and take for granted, are disappearing. It might be a bloody great gas pipeline this year with a graded road all the way to the top. Next year it might be a sealed road going right through the guts of the most remote and beautiful desert country we have.

There is no way to stop "progress" driven by economic interests. I guess the best bet is to enjoy it as much as we can while we can, and take lots of photos.
