Hi there eveyone, I've got a problem with volt meter light, air cleaner light and drain water light. They flash on and off only when I've put the lights on.

I've read earlier in the forum that battery terminals are the problem and I replaced the battery terminals and got the alternator checked out but this still hasn't fixed my problem.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
thanks Steve

Phone the dealership and ask them if there are any notes out on the problem. Also e-mail the company and ask them.
Many times I have been around to the dealer to browse their notes and workshop manuals, and they have always been obliging.

I have a 91 TD GXL and have had the problems with the some or all of the warning lights coming on (blinking) on occassion about twice. The orange turbo light came on intermitantly for a couple of hours and was told by Tojo that it was the ground wire on the Turbo needed cleaning. No trouble since. All the warning lights did the same soon after and found out that the connections to the alternator were to blame. Guess its time for some of the connections to be cleaned. Just the age of the vehicle I guess. Feels a lot like a new fourby though. I must admit I have only had mine for about 6 months though. No probs so far except for the odd flashing lights.

Good luck

Steve
have a look at the wiring plug on the back of the alternator and make sure that it's "home" and the terminals are clean

Re: 80 Series dash lights (Disco Lights)
I previously owned from new a 1992 GXL Toyota, fitted with factory turbo, I encountered the Disco Lights flshing from time to time after some 20,000 kms.
After research and NO help from Mr Toyota, I eventually found out (through the back door, from an insider) how to fix the problem.
I was told to unplug the lead from the rear of the alternator and give the harness a pull and try to gain as much length as possible, I done this and achieved approximately 50 mm, then I split the harness and re-taped it with the two large power wires seperate from the small ones.
Then checked the pins in the alternator to make sure they were OK.
Following this I had no further problem with those annoying Disco Lights, the vehicle was updated at 130,000 kms.
Happy 4 x 4ing

I previously went through the exercise of cleaning all the earth straps, under the bonnet and inside behind the kick panels, but to no avail.
Hope this is of some help, let us know.
