Bear in mind the Navara in the ZD30 form is not intercooled and therefore doesn't produce the power of the ZD30 in the patrol.
This doesn't affect the basic design of the engine and what its asked to do.
Whether or not the power output is enough to determine the oil capacity I couldn't tell you for sure. You would think from a theory point of view that the same engine design should require a certain amount of oil to have sufficient lubrication no matter what the power output is.
When you think back to old days the Ford 351 stock standard had 5 litres of oil capacity and then you work the crap out of it to 450 hp and it still only has 5 litres of oil.
My thinking would be it should have 8.3 litres the same as the Patrol but we haven't had any dramas come through our workshop with the ZD30 in the Navaras.
I probably haven't helped much.
