Hi All,

Just after some feedback on the Rhino Rack system whether they can stand up to corrugations etc.. Anyone had any problems with them???
I am looking at probably 3 of the heavy duty bars with the 1800 x 1240 alloy tray to fit my 80 series Cruiser.
Local Offroad store has quoted $1050 fitted. How does this compare with prices in other locations???
Cheers,
Brett

Hello Big Woody

I have 3 Rola Sports Bars (probably not as strong as the Rhino Racks) on top of my Patrol with a large mesh basket I take on and off as required. I have regularly stuck up to 100kgs of gear in it (it is rated to 120kg but I only load to a maximum of 100kg because of corrugations) and have driven the Wiluna North Rd on my way from the Pilbara in WA to Adelaide on numerous occasions. This road which is also the start of the Canning Stock Route is 190km of the roughest corrugations I have driven across, 2-3 hours of absolute pounding and have had no problems with the bars at all. Also with the basket removed I have monitored the fuel consumption with no bars on and just the bars on and can say that they make no noticeable difference to fuel consumption. Hope this helps

I have 2 heavy duty Rhino bars and an alloy luggage tray on my Prado. The system is as tough as nails. Mine just survived the Pilbara and home through Mt Augustus all heavily loaded. Didn't even need to re-tighten any of the bolts.

Cheers

The rhino bars are excellent, the greatest advantage of them is the light weight and ease of adding various accessories. I happen to have 3 rhino bars i am about to sell if your interested in new condition. plus kyack holder and high lift jack holder

We have the same set-up that you are thinking of buying on our Prado and have had no problems with it. The prices sound's right.
We found that it had a large impact on our fuel consumption.

Thanks Leith,

Yes I have had full racks on before and it increased my fuel consuption usually by about 3 miles per gallon (in the old money)
That is why I am so interested in the Rhino system because I will be able to take the tray off and leave the bars on for fishing rods and surfboards etc. and hopefully it will not increase my fuel consumption as much.

Cheers,
Brett

Rhino Rack: Great! Fitted one to my hardtop on Jeep Wrangler,I use it as much to stand on to take elevated photos as stowage..As their rails were only rated about 60kg,I made some steel RHS ones and fitted to that (Hammertone paint is so forgiving) Also cut down wind noise..Much quiter as the rails run the length of the rig..Beware of rails that cross from one side to other,as they may "sing"..Know oif a guy who had his car back to garage three times to stop tranny whine..Finally,mechanic put hand on roof rack while driving (only a trained pro can do this :-) turned out to be cross tubes on steel roof rack causing the noise. No spoiler either.!MPG:7!

I've got 3 bars and rack, same as what you're looking at, and have had no problems at all. Driven over lots of corrugations and no problems noticed. If you're constantly looking over everything when doing rought roads, you tend to check things like rack mounts, and these didn't need tightening at all in 7k. Since removed the rack and bars as the shed is too low to keep them on. I've got a 100 series and I went with the Rhino racks cause they have a modular mounting system so that I can simply remove the rack and bars in one, leaving the pad mounts. I also have 2 Sportz bars so that I can quickly throw them on for bikes or canoes or the like.
