after the recent disappearance of my aerial after the unexpected appearance of a low hanging foxtel cable i'm shopping for a new one.
what advantages/disadantages is there over whip/fibreglass/black rubbery ones.
i understand the dB ratings and how that works. how much difference dous say a 6' make over a 1' aerial.
also i've been told you can buy them cheaper online. anyone know where?

Not sure how this linking chit works....but seeing as how I managed to get photobucket working (with a fair amount of assistance from Doc Holiday!!!!), I am prepared to keep trying. The bit at the bottom of the screen says: "To Post Hyperlinks:
For links: da da da dee da
For images: da da da dee da

NB: I had to put the "da da da dee da" cos it came up with an error message when I copied and pasted the actual wording at the bottom of this box that I'm currently working on.

Well I just tried that up the top of this response, but it doesn't tell a mug like me where to actually insert the hyperlink that I'm trying to add????

Yep....include this code in your posting....as....

Linked text to do the clicking on !

Text for clicking on can of course be anything you want to say.
Href code in between those quotes is best copied and pasted from a browser's URL (address) line.
Doesn't matter what the web object is - is movie, whole site or page etc.

Duh...Banjo !.....Klutz ........Code line should be hand typed in as (or copied from Dave's eg at the bottom of the post view), and edited....

{a href="http://web_object_to_go to"}Text to be clicked on{/a}

...but actual brackets to be used need to be the less-than/greater-than symbols as Dave has illustrated.

Roachie,

Have you checked out the Hyperlink Procedure in the Member's Filesap area ?

link text

Sand Man has done a good job on documenting it.

Roachie just copy and paste the
For Links line at the bottom and delete everything inside the inverted commas. Put in there the web site you wish for people to view which is the www.abcdef.com.au and then type what ever you want it to say in the link text area.
I usually put the web address itself there.
http://www.lakecomm.com.au
The http://www.lakecomm.com.au is inside the inverted commas.

Hope this helps.

You're right Roachie - Sandy has done it again............I would never have seen that sheet - I've got domestic (and forum) blindness. There is a lot more than could be coded into posts but Dave has wisely blocked them out - it would be mayhem !
Bye the way - if you have a moment - others here may be interested on this point - re your Yam 1000KVA - can I take it that the 12V outlet and the 240V outlet can be employed simultaneously, to the full output level of each (or does one have to compromise on the outputs at such times) ?

Banjo,

Thanks I think I've got the links things worked out now....(phew!!!).

As regards the gennie I'm sorry I can't advise you as I have never even taken the 12v lead out of it's plastic bag!! I only ever charge batteries using 240v chargers.

Sorry I can't help.

Cheers

Roachie

I have a setup which Electric Bug push hard.

They tell you to go roof mounted because all roof mounted aerials work better than bullbar mounted (higher, line of sight etc).

They sell you a ground independant base and swing down bracket (if you have gutters). Then the aerial you put on top is up to you. For 99% of the time I simply use a 6 inch long rubber stubbie aerial. Its unbreakable and costs about $15. It also works very well - usually get 20km line of sight, and it actually works better in hilly terrain than the tall aerials. I also have a 60cm long whip if I want that extra range out in the flat country. Its a common setup in Adelaide.

Cheers
Phil

I have a black rubber aerial that is about 300mm long mounted on the bullbar of my landcruiser ute, it works really well with coverage and durability because it isnt in the way.

I didnt want a 6ft tall aeriel mounted all over my ute because i dont want to look like a tosser and still have the same signal as my small aerial.
