Does anybody know what the road conditions are like between Hughendon and the Oasis Roadhouse via the Kennedy Developmental Road. There will be three 4wd vehicles hauling off road vans thru the area in mid August and we are trying to plan our route up to Cairns.

Greg the majority of time that road is passable with two wheel drive. It depends on how much rain they have had and how many trucks have been trough since it has rained. The best thing is to contact the Main Roads Department in Queensland, who will give you a local phone number up that way, so you can call closer to the time to find out what the condition is.

Greg , have travelled that road in the last three months and found it rough and corragated , driving steady is the key here , we are expecting a bit of rain shortly ( if the weather man has got it right ) so it might pay to ring the roadhouse at the LYND junction to find out the conditions

Problem is with it being so dry they cannot send the graders out to grade the road. It is useless to grade roads without sufficient moisture they just turn to dust. Presenlty a major problem with so many gravel roads all around Australia in poor condition.

this is going to be agood trip when we finish planning it but as you turn the big 50 tomorrow you will probably need a motorised wheel chair with good offroad tyres and driving lights (maybe a bulllight )so that as another old bloke you can contiue touring . happy birthday tomorrow

Thanks Steve, Thats right I join the old Fa--ts brigade today. That will allow to me speak slowly, loose my hair, suffer hearing loss etc etc, and like yourself I can now blame my age. This will be a good trip and although I will be 50 I will still be the young bloke on our trip and there to look after you older ones. PS Can I borrow your Wheel chair.
