For those of you with a GX or GXL 120 Prado, I've just found that behind the glove box is the tray for fitting filter to the Air con/ventilation. (As fitted standard to VX and Grande models) So if you want clean air you can either fit the Toyota genuine consumable filter or if your cheap like me, a piece of filter pad foam I got from a sparkie neighbour (It's used in electrical cabinet ventilation fans apparantly)

Stan,

Thanks for the link.
Looking at the pics the filter pad I used seems to be similar to the factory one (bit like a sheet of cotton wool). It has however been treated with something to make is slightly sticky so hopefully it will be quite effective. I've found Toyota picked interior colours that make our red dust show up just right ie; a handfull looks like a bucket load.

BTW the foam I have used is "F5 EN779, available from Air Filter Cleaners here in Adelaide, you buy it of the roll 1m min purchase (roll is 2m wide) approx $50"

I did the right thing and bought a toyota one for mine after our simpson trip. At $67 each and it doesn't look like it would catch a rock let alone dust. The next one I get will be from my local air conditioning man.
