I am looking at bigger tyres for my Challenger and would like to fit some 265/75R16 in plase of the OE 255/70R16. That would be the max increase I could do to keep it legal (max 50mm increase to rolling diameter in WA) and not changing the rims.
But the question is, would they fit? Especially under the car for the spare wheel? Obviously I don't want to relocate the spare and tyre places won't know if it fits until I tell them I'll get the tyres from them but at the moment I am still deciding what to put on.
So if anyone has done it or seen it done on a Challenger can you please tell me.
Thanks, SLY.

Hey Sly, obviously not many of us Challenger drivers out there...
I had a look through the archives for Challenger - no news on running larger tyre diameters but found a photo of a Challenger owned by a guy who posts occassionally called "actionblokart.com". It looks like his tyres fill the guards more than standard. He may be able to help.
try http://www.freewebs.com/david_golding/PB070017c.JPG to have a look and perhaps try getting in touch through his website.

Personally I run 265/70/R16 Bridgestone D694 AT's and rate them pretty well. My biggest problem is clearance, so would be interested in hearing how you go.

good luck.

Dan

Sly, came across the following while reading another thread...

actionblokart.com posted this followup

Hi Camper.
I am running BFGoodrich 31 x 10.5R15 All-Terrain T/a's. A bit noisy on the tar, but great in the bush.
Ciao
Dave

... so i guess it can be done!

Hi Dan and thanks for your answers.
31x10.5R15 are about 787.4mm diameter with a width of 266.7mm, where the 265/75R16 would be 283.9mm in diameter and of course 265mm width. So I would still say that the 265/75R16 maybe harder to fit than the 31x10.5R15. It gives some hope anyway.
Cheers,

SLY.

OK, I had a close look at the car last night and surfed the net as well. From what I found on the net 265/75R16 should fit even without a lift. When looking at the room around the wheels it looks fine but I didn't try with the front wheels turned to the max and suspension at full travel (not that there is to much travel at the front anyway). The only part I am not too confident about is the spare: Getting under there with a stick the same width as the increase in radius I am looking at, it looks pretty tight, but should be just OK. So in my opinion 265/75R16 should fit but anything bigger would probably need relocation of the spare. I will still have to find a tyre place that will be OK to do a trial fit first.
SLY.
