Diesel ripeoff?

What the hell is going on with diesel prices in Melbourne? Prices have stayed around 127-130 for weeks and weeks even when the price of petrol changes the diesel price hardly changes.

Might be wrong but doesn't petrol and diesel come from the same crude oil? If the refining facilities in Melbourne import the crude oil and then process it into petrol and diesel why doesn't the price of diesel change as petrol does?

Has been indicated by a Shell employee that owners of oilers are subsidising the discount cycle for petrol buyers...

Now lets see. What excuses have been trotted out by the oil company spin twits in the past ?
China is buying most of the oil so we have to pay more
There's a huge demand for heating oil in the States, its their winter
We haven't used our stocks from the last expensive batch yet

10 years ago. There's less demand for diesel so its more expensive.

I'm sure that you can supply your own.

Thats what I was told a few years back. I never presented it as gospel truth, merely as my belief. I may be wrong, but while we still have free speech I will continue to give my opinion.

Here we go....again!!!!

WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET REALLY ANGRY.

All this was listed only 3 days ago!!!!

"Sorry all....but why does every complaint about fuel ALWAYS degenerates to this, that and the other and why the sun don't shine!!!!

Why don't we get really angry and instead of whinging to this forum EMAIL your local member. They are all listed, do a google search and if you bombarded them they just might do something about it.

I'm getting tired of all the complaints about fuel, rego, speed camera's, government corruption etc, so get up and email your local member and tell him/her...

'YOUR JOB IS ON THE LINE IF YOU DO NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT
AND I WILL VOTE YOU OUT OF OFFICE!!!!

When the oil runs out, no doubt there will be bio diesel outlets everywhere...and guess who will control them and the price of the input materials ? Not you or I, that's for sure.

It makes me ask where is our Australian sustainable energy policy ? Do we actually have stores of oil like the states ?
Are we going solar ? Nuclear ? Sugar ? What's the go ?
Seems to me that its all left to market forces. The only thing the Govt does is to collect the taxes and get re elected.

You are being exploited as a consumer - buyer resistance is the only cure - believe it - the oil compa nies will take no notice of anything else - if we keep buying in the same volumes, they will engineeed a way to keep the prices up - Johnny says sees the free market as great thing for virtually all commodities - (and he doesn't have to fill up anything at the bowser) - you can only hope that the ACCC are watching for price collusion amongst the companies - competition principles says that one of them should seek to undercut the rest and pick up the volume sales. We are being suckered.

Q - What is the easiest way to manipulate petrol prices so they are cheaper than they should be?
A - Inflate the price of diesel and gas so that petrol can be sold cheaper.

Absolutely Nothing! ..........and then we wonder why nothing gets done.

How do governments get in and how do government get out???

THEY GET VOTED IN BY US AND THEY GET VOTED OUT BY US!!!

And they poll the issues which include the very things for us to survive. If any polling reveils an issue that will vote them out of office, they WILL make changes. And here are the stats for this site.

'These results show a massive readership level 465,781 readers per month (Jan 06). When compared to other websites available to advertisers in the 4WD, camping and caravanning industry there is certainly no other website that even comes close to this kind of readership.

Furthermore, when compared to other mediums, such as 4WD, camping or caravan specific magazines, the readership of ExplorOz exceeds them immensely. Check for yourself!

Independent Performance Analysis
Each day a service called Hitwise reports on how 25 Million Internet users interact with over 500,000 websites across 160+ industries. We subscribe to the HitWise Australia service to obtain access to their reports and obtain rights to extract and publish charts showing our site's performance when compared to all websites measured by this service.

HitWise consistently reports ExplorOz.com (as an aggregate of all our domain names that point to the same website - namely: www.exploroz.com, www.exploreoz.com, www.exploroz.com.au, www.4wdaustralia.com, in the top 600 of all Australian websites visited by Australian users based on site traffic.'

Massive readership with a massive attitude of 'we're not going to take it anymore' WILL produce changes.

But thats ok..we will just sit back and relax!!!

Cheers,
Lyndon.

well not exactly "by" the SIngapore market.

More "to" the Singapore market.

Petrol (and I presume diesel) distributors have to set their wholesale prices in line with the Singapore based price because, allegedly, that is the place where they could choose to sell their refined product if they wished - or if they are importing, that is the most likely place they would get it.

Of course in the time since this was introduced the world market has become just that, and the commodity can be bought and sold anywhere without any shipment needing to happen - so who know's what market they bought it in.

Basically the system is an abortion.

When it comes to diesel Australians are getting totally screwed over! Diesel comes from a lower distilled level that petrol, hence it is cheaper to produce! Diesel is around ¾ lower than the price of petrol in most other large countries. Why is it so expensive in Australia? Its surly not because Australia consumes more diesel than petrol.

I guess if I was selling something while screwing people at the same time and no one really complained to my “boss” I would still keep screwing people!

The majority of diesel use is by transport and farmers who get a 20 to 32 c/l rebate. As long as the price is less than that of petrol to these groups it will not draw more than modest outburst. I think they also bank on the higher efficiency of the diesel motor.
In many other fuel markets the price is set by the calorific/energy value of the fuel. this should also be a consideration in the automotive fuel market.
I am surprised someone hasn't come up with a product to mix with petrol to down grade it back to diesel qualities whilst it sells cheaper like some sort of 2 stroke oil or something.
