Have just discovered that my '91 landcruiser TD injector pump is leaking. Took it to a mechanic who stated about $3,000 for pump and injectors. They reckon that the whole pump needs to be rebuilt and it needs to be sent to
Adelaide for this (I live in
Alice Springs).
Suggested that I should also do the bid end as this model has problems with them. Could end up costing about $4,000 all up. I like the car a lot but maybe it is time to upgrade as other things might go wrong......
Vehicle has done 215,000 kms. Does this price sound right for that job?

A mate of
mine had the same model as yours and his pump started leaking at the top of the pump.He got the seal/gasket for about $30 and fitted it in 30 min.Wouldnt hurt to get your injectors o/hauled at that milage. Also the bearings were dodgy in some early t/d cruisers but if yours has done that much I'd reacon you got the good batch.

Wow 3000 bucks. That's harsh. My pump started leaking a few weeks ago. I bought a new seal from Toyota for $11.60. Three hours later, no leak. It is a tricky job but if I had to do it again it would only take about 30 mins.
Got nothing to lose. Go for it !

I'm sure you could get an exchange pump for less than that.
But as above, if the pump is not to bad a new top seal is the quick fix. Wash it down and let it dry, them try and find where the leak is. It may only require a seal.
But also the injectors would need a service if it has never been done yet.

Ballerat Toyota advertise in the $WD traders all the time selling brand new genuine pumps for less than that-but for the 1HZ so might be different story-worth looking though.
