So... on the big trip around oz with the kids... we left
Alice Springs and arrived at
Tennant Creek [or whereever] only to find that the sleeve tent had wriggled out of it's back situated on the roof rack.
I travelled with the poles ... now USELESS! for the next three months.
I had signs on the windows, hoping that some traveller found the tent and was looking for me.
I still have the poles out in the shed... Some have come in handy, but ...
well maybe on the next trip I'll take them with me again. I reckon I'll spot that lost tent beside the road some day.
And.... In 1991 I lost a post hole shovel beside the
William Creek -
Coober Pedy road. It has a black handle. Anyone found that?
BTW. You can't buy long handle post hole shovels in Cooper Pedy.. anywhere.. know why?

Poles without a tent..yup, pretty useless. Have often come across stuff off roof racks and wondered if people would come back. I once "lost" a suit in a motel. They claimed never to have seen it. Twas the only one I owned, and I've never replaced it. My wife left our brand new souvineers under a train
seat on the
Cairns tourist train. Nobody had seen our $200 worth there either. So they became useless purchases. Unfortunately that spoiled our whole trip. Civilization ? Useless !

I tried that it turns out cherubin are unlikE Yabbies and wont just crowd into a net around a bait. you need to
check the nets often and get them one at a time. another method \i saw used was to peg some meat a few metres out and periodically throw the cast net at it to get them

I lost a huge silver/green tarp and pegs/ropes etc off my roof rack North of Gympie about 18 months ago..Stopped about 300m after it came off. contempated walkingback to get it but figured it would be safer to go to next exit and U turn etc.. As I headed south.. I noticed a ute pulling away with my tarp etc on the back.. only to find that the next exit/U turn opportunity was 5km's away and hence never saw any of it again.. now I tie everything down a whole lot differently. Lesson learnt "Ouch"

Hi all
lost my roof rack bag ($400 worth of canvas) pulled up in the caravan park unloaded and hurried off to the shops in town. I was in the 80k zone when i felt for it on the roof. no bag. drove up and down the road to no avail went to the caravan park office to post a reward and there it was waiting for me. Never did get to buy the guy a beer he never left his name.
But a big thanks to all who do go to the trouble of trying to find the owners of lost items.

How about starting out with useless space wasting gear that is never used on the trip but is seen as an essential item....Try a sewing machine, a video recorder, A Banjo & a freaking trombone......
