JD, we call them 'lurkers'. Amazing the number of people who travel through here who say to me that they'lurk' on EO - that they watch and never speak. I tell them they are wussies, that we aren't really that scary (except for Willem and a few others!) LOL

Yep! its not a new phenomenon and they are known as 'lurkers' because they 'lurk' around unseen, unidentified and always watching 'them'.

Its in the same category as those that lurk around back yards, peering over fences at others laundry.

You know the type - wait, watch and sometimes take 'things' whilst no one is looking.

Interesting assessment Lucy - strange name for a man btw.

So... those of us who are not "members" ie. choose to donate money to a commercial operation are to be categorised as Peeping Toms and thieves.

It has often seemed to me the non members contribute more to this forum than the members.

And Mike, your damned lucky you can contribute here as a non member.
Those of us who "choose to donate money to a commercial operation" do so because without support like all commercial business' this one would fail like any other business where money doesn't come through the door.
I bet you wouldn't have the testicles to risk everything in setting up a business.

Am I really?

On a daily basis people pay me money for my knowledge - I give it here for free.

Had the balls to do it twice buster - on two different continents on opposite sides of the world - how about you...?

I also have run my own business for over 20 years and decided that the unions and various governments weren't going to dictate to me what I could and couldn't do. Got out while I'm still ahead and yes I advise people all day long on how to do things.
I always knew that the country I was born in was the best one around and I'm still here.
Have you ever heard of sex and travel. That's my advice to you and it's for free.

Take it easy fella's, you missunderstood each other, the 'lurkers' they're talking about are the ones under 'anonymous', you know the ones that are always here reading but never actualy give they're details to become either a visitor or member, so they can't write anything on the site.

Those great numbers are not all people 'lurking' or viewing.
Internet search engines updating thier info, Google etc, will show up as 'Anon"
Sometimes there are hundreds of them at one time.

If David reads this he could probably explain it better.

Ian,

No need to be sorry. Everyone's been a lurker at some stage or other. As for not logging off, hardly a major problem.

I like your new sig Al. You may be interested in the following quotation:

Mike,

Good one :)))) From a time when Judges had a grip on reality unlike too many these days unfortunately. But then again, I suppose we only really hear about the 'judicial lunatic fringe'.

Yes, I may have to see the movie ( V for Vendetta ). Will probably appeal to the anarchist in me :)))))

Some of us believe in "keep your mouth shut unless you have something to say" I do take exception to being compared to people peering over fences and the implied inuendo.
If it makes you feel better: Truckster cracks me up, must be the shire boy in him. Leroy is still learnin'. Davoe from widgewhatever has no consideration for the rest of us., and Roachies Patrol is just fat.

Ok lets see if I got this right.
Step 1 you post on a forum on the net.
Step 2 you complain that people read it.

Bloody ell, anything else you people want to complain about?
Possibly you drove down a public road & someone looked at you.

Simple solution if you don't want anyone reading what you post.
Don't post.

Marty.

How sad to see the EO family turn on each with this member/ non-member issue. The "lurkers" are mainly people who use google, yahoo etc to do searches and are redirected here. They show up Anonymous. Non-members show up as visitors.

Frankly I don't know why it bothers anyone whether somebody is or isn't a member.

Member, Visitor or Anonymous - what does it matter ?

I lurked for a long time before registering as a Visitor then finally took the plunge and became a Member. Have'nt seen any examples of so called "member snobbery".

It's the same as in ordinary life, some have thin skins, some don't.

Yeah but if you look closely you'll see some are in there 3 and 4 times at the same time, which is easly done if you log in and out within an hour.

What you see is NOT what you get.
