Am checking out the brochure on the new engle stainless steel ss40 fridge freezer.Capacity is 37 litres, digital temp read out,2.5amps draw ,tri-voltage etc at a rrp $1449.Seems a fair price increase over a standard 40 litre.I read in a post here somebody had some slight rusting on their engel but that was after many years of use.The polished look of the new s/steel looks great in the show room but would have to scratch up badly if a cover was not kept firmly in place. What is wrong with the plastic of a waeco(half the price and won't dent and scratch).I know engel have the reputation but this price exceeds most 80litre fridges.Maybe it is a top fridge to last 20 or so years anybody got one or know if it is good value over the previous model.

thanks marcus

Hi Marcus,

At that price $1499 for a 40L Fridge, I don't think there will be that many sold. Poor value compared to the standard Engel & Waeco.

The only rusting I have heard about on the standard Engel, was slight surface rust caused by moisture when using the transit bag. Engels I have seen that are many years old have NO rust (they get cleaned occasionally).

Maybe Engel are targeting a new market ? (BMW X5, Lexus etc)

Hi marcus, If your thinking about the ss40 try www.portable-engel-chescold-more.com.au. They quoted me around $1350 for the ss40L.
I ended up with the ss80L and it is brilliant.

Marcus if you are thinking of spending that much money you may as well get the most space available . Check out Evakool 68 or 70 Ltr models F/Glass shell ,40mm Insulation,Won't rust ,Insulation stands on it's own no need for a Insulation Cover . You can contact Evakool at 0754927777 and they will give you a dealer contact

Personally I think the Engel's and Waeco's don't have enough insulation for australian conditions. The Australian made fridges have more efficient insulation which equates to longer run time. I've got an Evakool and am very happy but there are a few good australian made brands to choose from and nearly all use the same reliable danfoss compressor as the waeco.
