There are two charter boats which do 1/2 and full day charters. We were up there a few weeks ago and went out on the 'Kerry D'. I cant remember the name of the other boat but the caravan parks have brochures for both. They were $85-90 for a 1/2 day charter which go roughly from 7am to 12:00 pm. I can't remember the cost for a full day trip.

You could try ringing the sunset caravan park to get the charter boat contact details, but we just booked when we got there.

We will be there in October.

I would like to know what you cought on your charter. I have a 13 year old son that I would like to take on a charter whare he could catch a Barra or at least have a chance.

Thanks

BBB,

We didn't catch much at all but I think mainly because the water was so cold. It was only 17-18 degrees which is way too cold for barra.

There were plently of large grunter, some salmon and mackerel being caught.

We did catch a number of very large queenfish of 1 metre plus while trolling for the last hour of the charter. This was great fun a made what was otherwise a disappointing charter into an okay one.

Water temp in October will be much higher and should be a prime time to catch a barra.

You would be very lucky to catch Barra in July ive been a regular to Karumba for some years and NEVER caught a Barra in July,
Mostly Grunter Bream,King Salmon,Spanish Mac,is what you could expect there at that time.
Good Fishin, Lots of Luck.

DJPatrol is dead right about Barra in July. Our annual trip to the NT this year was delayed till june because of work and water temps were below 25c - very very few barra on the chew. We usually go when they are up around 32c. But more generally, although I've been to Karumba (I'm not a regular) on the occassions I've been there I have the impression that the barra have been flogged pretty hard. You will get blue salmon, the odd king salmon, grunter bream (javelin fish) and if lucky a black jew. All are great eating. The charter guys I saw up there mainly chased salmon and grunter for guys like yrself and your son would be pretty chuffed if he was lucky enough to pull in an 800 king!

when we were there a couple of years ago in addition to daily fishing we went on a night cruise spotlighting crocks...we were amazed how many there were and how close to town your son might like this as much as we did....just a thought.
