I have '92 4.2EFI GQ Patrol and once it's been driving for a while the temp gauge starts to move up to around the 3/4 mark then slowly come back to 1/2 where it normaly sits. The coolant used is genuine nissan, the levels are perfect and it has been pressure tested for leaks etc(for cylinder head damage) It has just recently started to do this and up until now never moved above 1/2.
Has anyone else had the same problem.
I have the ARB Deluxe winch bar with 3 large spots in the middle, could this be reducing air flow and causing the gauge to rise?

Any help would be appreciated

Mark,
You're right, the more obstructions you place in front of the radiator grille the more likely that the cooling efficiency will drop. You did'nt mention wether your patrol also has the electric fan attached to the radiator. Mine cuts in at about the 3/4 mark, at which time I notice the temperature drop back to half. These electric fans have their own temperature sensors, just trace the wires from the electric fan to the sensor which on mine is tapped into the radiator. These should not cost much, and replacing them are simple.

Frank

If it rises and then settles and behaves it has to be thermostat related. Be very careful you fit the correct one!
