Outnabout David (SA)
I have a TX3400 and a TX3200 UHF fitted to my Landcruiser.
I have re-run the antenna and replaced some coaxial due to getting hooked on a tree last week end.
Anyway while I was relaying the cable I decided to fit the TX3200 so as to have an extra raedio. Everything worked fine last night when I did it and tested it in the shed.
Today I went to
test it outside the garage on a bit of a drive and both radio’s have static on all stations. Obviously when I switched them off last night I must have de-activated something and re-programmed the units. After fiddling and pressing buttons for ages I have got the TX3200 working but the TX3400 is still static.
When switched on the display shows a sellcall number briefly and a busy signal. The radio transmits and receives OK but there is constant static when not in use.
This happened once before and I am dammed if I remember what I did to fix it. I have changed the squelch to 1,2 and 3 to no avail.
Would appreciate any ideas as I am going away next weekend.
PS I have read the manuals but are dammed if I can find any troubleshooting guide. Hoping someone out there can help or tell me how to restore the radio defaults
Thanks

We've had this happen twice; first time it was just a matter of hitting the squelch button.
This is simply pressing the squelch button, as opposed to altering the squelch level.
Second time was becasue the radio wasn't getting enough power (the battery had nearly run flat while another radio was being fitted). Starting the engine fixed that.
Afraid I can't be more help . . those radios are usually so bullet proof, it's either something very basic that's wrong, or else it's prboably stuffed.

David, I think
John R is right. I have the TX3600 programmable commercial unit including 40 CB & 100 UHF channels, whose basic operations are, I am pretty sure, the same as the TX3400.
I have had what you describe happen before too & I did what
John R suggests.
My manual says (apart from heaps of other things), "The Squelch (or mute) key is used to eliminate any annoying background noise when there are no signals present....to re-enable the squelch, briefly press (they mean press & hold for a tick) the squelch key (button). A high beep will be heard". It is a low beep when you disable the squelch, so you could press and hold the button a couple of times to determine which is which (squelch now on - squelch now off) by the different tones. Good luck.

The battery did go flat actually but I have now charged it fully but same problem.
I have pressed the squeclh button but there is bo high or low beep to be heard.
As I said this happened once before and then after many button pushes it fixed itself. I was hoping that there was some magical method to reset everythging back to the manufacrurers defaults. I suppose it could be coincidence tnat the sqyelch button has had the dick at the very same time that I have fitted the new radio and flattened the battery. As I said it was OK that night when fitted and yesyed but the next morning after the battery went flat I had the problem.

Sorry you havent had success David. We have our work done by Grant Cameron of
Gawler CB & Auto Ph. 08-8337-7071. They're actually at 741 Lower North East Road, Paradise these days, not
Gawler. They do a lot of CFS & SES and fit Codans to Government outback vehicles & the like. Grant is a
young bloke who was the Technical Manager but has recently purchased the business from the retiring owner Graham. On Monday he may be prepared to give you an answer over the phone which some of the other commercial people may not. And no, I have no connection with them other than have received good economical service from them.

David,
Without seeing the installation, it could be a lot of things. Starting at what I think to be the most probable,
a) The Radios are too close together,
b) The antennas are too close,
Both the above problems will go away if one of the radios is turned off. The second problem however will mean the reception will be poor (always).
c) There is something in the vehicle which is interfering with the radios. It may not have interfered in the previous locations are where the antenna or power leads are now run.
d) You have a loose wire or connections to the radios, or the earth connection to the antennas on the Bull Bar etc is dirty,
e) You have turned off the squelch on the radios and need to turn them back on.
Best of luck with trying to fix the problem
Cheers,
Mal

I had the same problem once before when I only had the one radio.
I am sure it is a programming thing.
Since my post I have disconnected the power and also diconnected the remote head wire. Plugged it all in again and now all that happens is "TX34" appears in the l/h side of the screen and has nothing else and none of the buttons do anything. It has to be some programming thing that is betond the owners manual instructions. I guess I am hoping for a technician to reply.
