Gob,
Mine was a bit slow as I (apparently Exploroz is NOT a 4WD club!!)) got the pro-rata amount all cocked up. But I noticed my cheque has been cashed but I've received nothing to tell me I'm still a member.

Now there's an idea. Perhaps management could be asked to investigate if members here could get the pro rata rate ?

From what I understand, there is going to be NO subsidies after this year. No 4wd club, no pensioners etc etc....

Frankly I don't like their attitude in their promotional brochures or papaerwork etc they send out.
Also, I never use the service and am letting it go this year. Received a stern reminder notice this morning. Binned it.
Yes. I know they provide an excellent service! but I can do more with the $113 they now wish to charge me
Cheers

Willem, you're not suggesting they change the paperwork from "listen you piece of Bleep. pay up or else" into something like "Hi. It seems you've forgotten to pay etc " ???
Goodness me, Willem. What will you think of next ? LOL

I have just (today) received their OVERDUE
Membership renewal...I never received the original renewal and now, for the second time, it would appear that my callsign will be returned to the 'pool' so that they can issue a 'matching callsign' to my selcall number, as per "...callsign allocation policy .. Policy 05, Revision 6"
This happened to me once before, when I moved house and the new owners failed to forward mail and I subsequently lost my much coveted callsign, Victor 3, which they allocated to another member who was 'waiting' for it to come up....(I had been a founding member and the second to join from Victoria, and paid religiously over the ten years or so...). There is certainly no reward or respect for long standing
membership.
Like some others here, I think the service they provide to outback travellers is wonderful, but the officious attitude that seems to eminate from the management of the organisation is unnecessary.
Mark
ex Victor 3
ex Victor 13 ???
who knows

The other mob Reids radio data only charge $22 a year for their 5 channels, I know you don't get the skeds but I don't think those guys get paid anyway. I would only use the HF 2 or 3 times a year anyway.
I'm not renewing with VKS

Same here, haven't received the 2007 card yet.
Paid by Bpay, so I know I'm financial.
And I did send in the properly-filled-in renewal form and copy of payment.
From earlier discussions with them, there's a lot of manual paperwork.
I'm not fretting at this stage....

Hi Gob & Denny,
We received our renewal early November, sent back money order. I usually get the new licence within a couple of weeks. A month went by, so sent them an email, They were processing thousands of renewals, and informed that they had received mine. The new Licence arrived 2 weeks before Christmas.
Cheers
Stephen

Have had the renewal and got the card back in November. VKS could do with looking at their form. It is a pain in the butt. They have all the details already. If they need to be on there they could print them on the form and ask if they are correct, then sign here. Would reduce there paper costs as it could return to a single A4 sheet. An A3 double sided format must cost.

Just a quick word re
VKS737 volunteer base station operators (I'm one) - I can't speak for the group of course (about 40 odd most times) but its seems to me operators overall simply enjoy being involved in a voluntary community activity; talking to members on sked, while they roam across Australia. Most ops have little day to day contact with head office - its pretty much a case of two seperate wings in the network - we just follow our sked rosters and distribute sked records to all, via email. Decisions about formal communications/relations beteen head office and the members are made by those staff there, in conjunction with the committee.

Hi Darian,
I take my hat off to all the volunteers that man the VKS network. You do a great job and I have been a member for over 12 years. All the operators are always very helpful and always a pleasure to make contact with.
Keep Up your very valuable work for a very well done job and for the benefit for all outback travellers.
Regards

Rec'd my nasty note thismorning saying that licence to operate has been revoked and callsign will go back into pool if not paid by end January.
Must pay $108.00 now, not $81.00 as previous as I was naughty and had not renewed.RENEWAL NOTICE NEVER RECIEVED.
I have been a member of VKS for around 20 yrs and find that the attitude of the office staff is becoming officious, no need for the threatening type letter that has been sent.
What is wrong with a polite, "Perhaps you have overlooked.........."
VKS claims to be computerised so what is wrong with a computer generated e-mail or text to mobile.
All contact details are supplied to them, or don't they record them.
Time to move into the new century VKS.

Just a thought!!!
If the office is so overloaded at this time of year with the renewal process why not consider a change to the billing system, say something along the lines of staggering the billing and due date for each state??
Maybe WA in November, SA in December etc etc this would spread the work load out over a longer period.
It would seem to be a sensible system to de stress the office process and would allow a possible more relaxed response to members needs and issues.
I agree 100 percent with the other posts regarding the quality and outstanding attitude and service by the base operators, they provide a unique service in this country and are a pleasure to have as part of my travels. Keep up the good work guys.
I know a lot of you frequent this
forum and I wish you all a great New Year.
