Hi,

Has anyone fixed rust in the sunroof of a HJ61.

Can you remove the panel for repairs?

Craig, I also have a very small patch of rust on the edge of my sunroof. (HJ61 Sahara)
I have looked at the headling on a few occasions trying to figure out a way to get at the sunroof inside to see how extensive the rust is, but at this stage not game to pull the headling apart. The rust is only about 1/2 cm in size at the most
Fotunately, I haven't got any other rust in the roof that I can see. But I live in an arid area so no moisture in the air to speak of.
Hopefully I will be getting the rust spot fixed very soon though.

I also has a small spot of rust in the one I owned. I chipped the rust back down to metal, sunk some fishoil into it over a couple of weeks, then touched it up with some paint. I was able to just lever back some of the rubber edging from above.

The sunroof panel can be removed and the procedure for this is covered in detail in the toyota chassis and body manual if you can get hold of a copy. It was available on the internet somewhere but not sure where to find it now. If the panel is beyond repair you can have a plate welded into the roof.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info guys.
I am downloading the manual now.

I have a Gregorys manual. It's got a really informative section on the bodywork.

It gives you some great info on how to replace an exterior mirror and how to clean icecream of the trim and lots of other 'must read' stuff like that. Duh!!!!
