A month back I was searching for a decent 5 tonne bottle jack and the Japanese Masada jacks are amongst the best. I did a bit of web surfing to find some prices and finally popped in to Coventrys here in Rockingham (
Perth) to
check thier prices.
They wanted $210.00 for a 5 tonne Masada bottle jack!!
I went back on eBay and bought a brand spanking new one for $105.00 plus $15.00 postage from Eastern States. Total = $120.00
A week before Christmas & I'm back in Coventrys for some cheapo windscreen reflective covers and what do I spy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
A 5 tonne Masada bottle jack on special for $110.00 !!!!
I had a word with the manager and asked if he'd ever thought how I would have felt if I'd have paid $210.00 for one only 10 days prior. I was distinctly unimpressed. I told him I would prolly have used it smash his
shop window in!!
That level of profit margin is legal theft!!

Sounds similar to the mark up on some of the stuff REPCO sell, Funny thou cause I have always found Coventry’s to be pretty good with prices on most things, I have also found that the guy behind the counter will tell you if he feels the price is a bit high and try and recommend a equivalent part.
I.E went in for Ford Motorcraft leads for the Explorer $350+, the guy behind the counter just about fell over when he read the price and so did I LOL, he ended up finding me the NKG Equivalent for around $110 but let me have them for $100.
cheers.

Bilbo, fair comment, but as my economics teacher taught me many years ago ... a willing seller and a willing buyer ... do a little research at the time ... dont look back ... maybe they were bringing in container loads at a price to justify $210 and a month later imported 5 container loads at a better price.
