Just wondering if anyone has any experience fitting a ARB roof rack with the tall legs (ie for a troopie) to a 80 series. The rack is full length (2200 mm x 1350) without mesh or the plactic wind deflector. With the legs as low as they can go there will be about 60mm clearance between the rack and the roof. Do you think I'll get a lot of wind noise?

I just had a mate use s safari rack from a GQ and put it on a standard height GQ.
We ended up cutting the legs off to length and welding them back on. The rack then got sand blasted and powdercoated. You would now never know the difference.
Cheers Kev

Hi Manus,
I have an 80 series with the full length ARB steel rack.
mine does not have mesh, just the round bars across the rack every 150mm or so (i think).
As you can buy the legs separately I would just purchase the lower legs for your rack. I don't think you would get any extra wind noise from having the rack 60mm above the roof as opposed to about 30mm but I think they get a bit ugly if they are sticking up too high.
Mine is not noisy on the highway but it is certainly a bit louder than when I have the 3 Rhino bars on. I got more wind noise when I fitted the Safari
Snorkel than the roof rack. I think the ones with the mesh floor can generate a fair bit of wind noise inside the vehicle.
Cheers,
Brett

Ours is on our 80 - full length...standard legs though i assume..no wind noise empty or loaded....the only noise if its loaded is off the rak sack if a strap is loose!!
we got no wind defelctors either...you should be right hey!!
