Just thought I would mention I have fitted the Chev V8 from Brunswick Diesels. Brought the Kit and had it fitted in
Melbourne. The modified 5th gear kit was part of the kit. The kit comes with all of the parts and hoses to do the install. Had to replace the 5th gear main shaft in the process as the spline was almost worn off. Took it for a run last weekend, what a beast!!

Ted,
would be keen to have a look at the engine specs as far a torque etc goes. Must be an animal.
All you need to do now is twin turbo it :-)

Did you change diff ratios while you were at it? how quick does it spin at 100kph?
Good luck in updating your rig profile, as I am sure there is a bit of modifying to do just there LOL!!!
Regards, Trevor.

Hey Trevor,
I reckon the diff ratios are probably ok at 3.9, providing it's a non turbo, has largish tyres (315/75R16 would be my suggestion) and preferrably have this new fangled .74 5th gear ratio (which I reckon I'll have to do, NOW!!! Visa card is gunna melt!!! hahaha

Sorry Roachie but I presumed Ted's was a 3lt in a previous life and the diff ratio's in those were 4.3 or something like that???? Hence my question about his revs at 100k/h.
I think you are right about Ted being out haveing too much fun to respond though LOL!!
Cheers, Trevor.

Hi guys
I have air lockers in both diffs and the rear one is the heavy duty 30 tooth spline so I kept the diff ratios standard (4.375:1) The engine was a 3.0 litre, blew after 150000 km. Gearbox spline on 5th was almost shot so had to replace it as
well. The .74 ratio for 5th is fine for highway driving so the other gears are not a problem. I run 285/75 STT's so the RPM @ 100km is just over 2000. Engine just lugs along it will pull away in 5th from 60km/hr, lots of torque. The engine is non turbo, the guys at Brunswick said the underbonnet heat with the turbo is a problem so decided not to go that way, dont think I need it anyway. With what the engine kit, fitting and 5th gear cost I could have bought a new jeep wrangler but I have the Nissan fitted out with drawers and all the goodies for 2 people (only got 2 seats) so I will see if it was all worth it in a few months. Thanks for you interest.
Ted

G'day Ted, welcome to the Chev world! Isn't it great?
Now, is yours a turbo? What diff ratio are you running? What revs does it pull at 100k/h or 110 k/h in 5th with that new gear? Have you got some
suspension lift to avoid the front diff's flange hitting the bottom of the starter motor?
Cheers mate and enjoy the experience........I don't expect you'll be back on here to respond for some time, as you'll be out'n'about in the "truck"....hahaha

They are good fun Truckie, believe me.
One of my favourite party tricks with my 6.5 was to find a hillclimb with ruts in the tracks, put the Cruiser in L1, get out then lean in the window and flick the ignition key.
WOOMP WOOMP WOOMP......it'd climb real good at idle with no driver.
I put a 3" hotdog on it too. Sounded mint.
As Roachie says......tick, tick, tick

bleep no.. plenty of things to spend $25,000 on before I'd spend it on an engine swap...
Buy another car, or even a block of dirt for that (land's under a grand now around avoca an acre)....
just interested to see if thats who did it.

Problem is, your's will be going for eva. Like most people, only good cars die
young........(Nissan springs to mind hehehehe).
I'll be like you and wait till
mine dies before I do anything drastic like an engine swap.
Cheers, Trevor.

Hi Ted,
just read ya story on the 6.5 in a GU,
does the engine have a mechanical injector pump or a electronic pump,
if its a mechanical ,I think you will find it doesn,t meet the emission ADR,s
that the GU must comply with . The 6.5 built after 96 all had electronic engine control to help it meet emissions ,in this case its unroadworthy .
let me know a bit more .
cheers mechpete.
