Hi all

Have almost got 2500 kms on my new RV and in a few thousand k's time would like to get a full s/steel 3 and a quarter inch exaust. My question is will the EFI system need to be tuned to suit, or can i go and bolt one on with no dramas. Also have future plans to put a dtronic. Just wanting to know if I add these are there other things that I need to consider. Am very happy with the ute as it is, but hope to really get it singing with a few simple add ons. Would appreciate any info given.

Thanks Brad

Not commonly done on the 79TD - I guess the improvements are not great. Not sure what you'd do with the catalytic converter (well, I know what I'd do, but I don't think its legal).

I'd get the Dtronic first. You may also want to go for an intercooler.

Must say that I'm pretty happy with the truck standard, so I've done nothing.

We have done just over 7000 and very happy .Like Phil's leaving it as is.
Unless you are towing very heavy loads etc.
"If it ain't broke dont mess with it"

I thought the standard exhaust was stainless ?

Still waiting for new canopy.
Locked the keys in it yesterday, called the locksmith, in 45 seconds he was in and then charged $45. So now fitting a and steering lock.!!!!!!!!

Me 3. Can't imagine the need for any more oomph! We tow a 2.5 tonne van with ours (2005 RV 79) and after 24,000 km it goes like a cut snake! I reckon they could do with a taller 5th or a 6th gear. And we are having a cruise control fitted, should have had it fitted new, that speedo wanders way high too often!

Cheers.

Hey, the std exhaust is stainless, you will get best results from installing a 3.5 inch dump pipe as sold by beaudesert exhaust qld...maybe replace right back to the first joint with larger....this allows free flow when gas is hot, as it gets further back, it slows down as it contracts....std muffler will keep it quiet....if you want to use 3 all the way, you will probably make an extra 6 kw as per the safari web sites dyno results with their 3 inch system....now compare that with the benefit of an intercooler and chip...maybe 30kw there...and longer life from motor.

Hi all

As I stated I am very happy with the ute as is, more of a curiousity than anything. But I thaught adding a bigger exaust will take a bit of back pressure off the turbo, but as for the cat converter I dont really know what the go is with that either. The exaust is magnetic, so stainless I dont think so, but I might be wrong because I know you can get all different grades.

you can get hi-flow cat's for better performance. Talk to Beausesert.

I'm running the beadesert exhaust system on my ute 3inch steel all the way through and the improvement was excelent anyone running a standard vehicle should drive one with a three inch the main improvment was the turbo seems to spool up at lower revs wich improves take-off and down low power. And I'm running the system with no adjustment's the efi system should self tune itself to suit the exhaust. This exhaust matched with a safari chip and then dyno'ed would have to be one of the fastest diesel on the australian market. I could only imagine with gas injection and a intercooler how good these utes would go It would have to be 200kw?? has anyone put gas injection on a 1htd-fte motor?
