Spoke to the so far helpful insurance company today and yes the bullbar is going to be covered under insurance even though its not on the policy,
so.....just wondering if you have had a standard bullbar replaced (we got one of those typical aluminium ones that every cruiser seems to have), through a claim, and successfully had it replaced with a better one, ie....a winch bullbar.....
any hints on what to say to the right people to get what we want???
they may not even replace it...it may cost less to "fix" it.....just have to wait and see.....its going in on the 12th Feb for a few days to get done....

We had the need to get a new bar last June, and all we said to the repairer was our new bar had to have the same features as our old one. Like a winch mount, and little cut outs in the sides for a high-lift jack. (Ours appears to be an ex-victorian police bar, which is surprising, considering the cruiser came from
Perth..)
When we turned up, there was a standard steel bar fitted, without any features. So we called the insurance company, explained what happened. We basically said we were happy with an ARB or TJM bar, but it needed the same features as the old one (ie. a winch fitting).
The smash repairer had a new bar built over the next month or so. The new bar cost over $2200 to manufacture, then had to be modified as it wouldn't fit the first time. And then the first bar they put on had to be paid for...It is exactly the same as the old one though, and looks pretty good.
I guess just be honest with the repairer, and you should be fine.
Cheers,
Chris

Bull bars, especially Aluminium ones cannot be repaired succeccfully. If its got a dint in it, or a crease, it has to be replaced.
Don't let those accessor's try and lie thier way out of it, its all about a cheap job to them,,,,unless you strike it lucky, and find a good one.
As for the cost of the steel bull bar, against the aluminium one , I'm affraid I cannot help you, but I would have thought about the same. then you may have to boost up shockers further down the line ( because of the extra weight )
Other than that, hope you are enjoying the final weeks of your pregnancy
