I notice that new Toyota like the Nissan has the intercooler on top of the engine and relys on air movement from a moving vehicle.
When using the 4WD in hard country and tralling very slowly, does this type of intercooler work as
well or
well enough compared to ones in front of a fan.

When you are travelling slowly, you aren't using anywhere near max power, so effeciency or not of the intercooler is negligable.
Cheers,
Dion.

Hi there
I have fitted a fan to my GU 3Litre.
When on
the beach in 3rd gear (or low range) working hard in the sand with a tail wind I suspect there will be a requirement for additional air.
That is 40Km in the soft sand with a 20Km tail wind. Not much will be pushed through the intercooler by forward motion.
Agree that under road driving conditions it is not an issue.

My 2.8 gu has a thermal fan under the intercooler, to draw air through it at low speeds
Cheers Stefan

looks as though Toyota have done the job properly and put on a decent sized intercooler. The only issue with it being top mounted is it's not as effiecient as a front mount due to air flow but also suffers from heat soak.

When you say "Toyota" I take it you mean Landcruiser? The last Prado I looked at had top mounted intercooler.
