I thought it was bitumen.

Shouldn't you be asking about the road north after Wiluna? :-))

its bitumen. my advice would be to try and avoid it you can head north from kal to broadarrow thn pick up the golden quest discovery trail stopping at all the historic places on the way as you head north. at siberia insted of heading east to the bitumen carry on over lake wangine stopping to check out the breakaways and pick the trail back up from daveyhurst. this will take you to leonora missing a couple of hundred ks of bitumen. I used to do drive in drive out from leinster and found many ways to go north avoiding the bitumen

Why try and avoid it ? (the bitumen I mean) Apart from the other way that you mentioned probably being more isolated is there other reasons??? That is one small area of WA that we have not travelled but we hope to change that in the near future so would be interested to know

Cheers

yea the reason is it takes in the golden quest discovery trail. interprative books for it are available in Kal newsagents and other place. Gos past many historical sites in the goldfields such as pubs that used to be towns of 10,000 people and more, soaks where aboriginals and whitefellas did battle, old cemetarys, historic mining centres, interesting natural formations------- or you can stay on the black top but it makes a pretty dull ride north

No booze buses.

But seriously folks, it is a much more interesting way to travel. I avoid the seal if at all possible and the WA Goldfields is a beaut little neck of the woods.

Remember, it's about the journey, not the destination. May as well fly otherwise.
