Greg
Gidday all,
I know I am going to get a myriad of different answers to this question but at least it will give a starting point.
I own a '03 Hilux T/D 4dr and at the moment it has BFGOODRICH LONG TRAIL T/A P245/70R16 boots on it and I live in the
Alice Springs area. The majority of driving ( probably like the rest of us ) will be on the black top. 80/20.
What type of tyre would be the best compromise for this area and at what approx cost?
Thanking you in advance.
Cheers
Greg.

Ok, I'll be the first to offer an opinion. BFG AT's at around $260 ea from Bob Jane. Will be
well suited to the Alice landscape and just as at
home on the blacktop. Should give you 100,000km or possibly more.

Hi there Davoe, I cant understand why you would get such sh#t wear out of the bf's and especially if it has done virtually no off road work. I know a few years back they started making them in china (I think it was) and there was some bad feed back in quality, wear etc and are now been made in the usa again but 20/30 klms out of a set of tyres I would be going back to where you purchased them or ring manufacturer direct and get a rep to come out. Even if you have no intentions of putting them on again I would be trying to get some of my $$$ back. As said above I have had no issues at all with
mine and a few friends have them as
well on prados and have got great klms out of them except for the prado's scuffing/feathering on the outer edges but this is common with the prado's. Steve M

they were put on the vehicle from new along with mags. The guy only did 300km before my missus bought it in
Melbourne so no recourse on the tyres they have worn evenly they do have a fair bit of tread left but at 20k are dfinitly into there last 3rd or 1/4 of there life.
I will look at ither 10.5 tyres next or maybe even putting16s back on it

No offence davoe, but maybe you should
check to see how your missus drives, coz that sort of wear isnt normal.
I got 265/75x16's BFG AT's on my 2003 V6 Hilux, and have done 40,000kms so far on them and I reckon Im just past halfway thorugh wearing them, and I dont give them an easy run either.
I am very satisfied with my tyres and would consider them again, thou the 265bux per tyre is a bit scary. Bit much I reckon.

none taken she drives very
well she is a proffesional truck driver the tyres show no sighns of uneven wear/scuffing associated with bad driving - they are simply down on tread evenly. surprised me as everyone seems to get a good run milaege wise out of the BFG.

I'll go along with Off-tracks answer. I only have 15 inch on the old girl and have bf all terrains have now done 45 thou so far probably more around 75 on road 25 off and find them great. No punchers to speak of (touch wood) and wearing great hopefully get another 45 but will hopefully be sold by then. Haven't even rotated them since they were put on. I have found the front ones now just starting to scuff on the front edges but that is due to where I live. If anybody knows glenmore park (Penrith) they will know what I'm talking about. I give these tyres a hard time, playing on the weekends in some pretty savage stuff rocks etc then to and from work everyday then also our long trips. I do find them a bit skittish in the ars# end but that would be due to no weight in the ute and running 45 psi all round. Good choice for myself. As you said every body will have there own choice, coopers, kumo's etc but at the end of the day I always get sucked in to brand names but so far has paid off for me with most things. Your budget will play a big part also on what you end up with. Steve M
